The sun is slowely getting hotter. It is already 1/3 hotter than it was when the earth formed. All stars have expanding habitable zones, and earth will leave the sun's in about half a billion years. That is, the sun's radiation will exceed the boiling point of water at earth's distance in half a billion years. The atmosphere blocks a lot of the sun's heat however, so it will probably be an additional half a billion years before the oceans boil. In any case, the sun will become a red giant in about 5 billion years, ending life on earth, regardless.

In 5 billion years time from now, the sun's outer layers will expand, boiling off the water from the Earth. The sun will soon go dark forever afterwards, leaving the Earth with no water and no heat. Life cannot be sustained in this environment.
Thus, maybe humans can live for another billion years, but not past 5 billion years.
We are just a tiny speck in the universe. The universe existed for many years before humans, and will exist for many years after.

YEAH. the earth is 4 billion years old.
and our generation wont see more than 120 years if were lucky extremely lucky but the average lifespan is 75 for males and females live longer around 80 years old.
but as science breaks new ground im sure humans will only live longer and better lifes like say 10 generations from now maybe even sooner.

last time i check, the earth can survive another 4 billions years
but many people say 100 years because some issues such as:
global warming causes the earth temperature to raise, negatively impact the environment and the weather.
as you can see, natural disasters are getting worse.
deforestation also impact directly on human.
if human don't realize it soon enough, we will be the ones that put an end to our existence.

Hi. The environment always changes. Usually this change is gradual and life adapts. It appears that the climate is in the last century of its current state. When (if) the ice melts there will no longer be a heatsink that gets replenished each winter and the climate may make radical changes over short periods of time. Our life style will not be supportable in that environment. But life will.

if the world does not end according to a religious view(armageddon, etc), then I think we will colonize another planet within the next 50 years. if you don't beleive me, go read up some on the current space activities. 3/4 of my nieghbors used to work for NASA, so I know a lot abt space. so who cares how long this world will last?!

ok, it not just like one day soon we're going to go BOOM! but here's the thing the weather is changing so rapidly [just thank global warming!] that whatever lives there can't adjust... for example if you take a block off the bottom of the pyramid everything else at the top will fall. so no we aren't going to all die tomorrow, but you shouldn't be driving a hummer!

We can, if we're very very VERY lucky.
The sun is going to die soon, we could get hit by a meteor, and our galaxy will soon collide with the Andromeda galaxy in a few billion years.
