Apparently Al Queda has issued a new threat . They say we should get ready for a surprise( in line with their own rules to warn us before an attack) . On one of the terrorists websites they're posting pictures of Musharref and Bush at the Capitol with burning flames . Homeland Security is taking this threat seriously too .
But probably most importantly , Homeland Security has stated that are security levels are about as high as they can be. . . . . . and the only thing extra that we need to do is BE WATCHFUL , VIGILANT , and REPORT anything unusual . Yet I scrolled through about 40 questions and saw nothing .

Whaddya say we drop the partisan arguing , and start offering suggestions as to how we're gonna be more observant ?
I will . . . . Will You ?

1963 Communist Goals
The following was entered into the Congressional record by Albert Herlong, Jr. (a Floridian who served in Congress from 1949-69) in 1963.

1) US acceptance of coexistence as the only alternative to atomic war
2) US willingness to capitulate in preference to engaging in atomic war
3) Develop the illusion that total disarmament by the US would be a demonstration of "moral strength"
4) Permit free trade between all nations regardless of Communist affiliation and regardless of whether or not items could be used for war.
5) Extension of long term loans to Russia and Soviet Satellites
6) Provide American aid to all nations regardless of Communist domination
7) Grant recognition of Red China, and admission of Red China to the UN.
8) Set up East and West Germany as separate states in spite of Khrushchev's promise in 1955 to settle the Germany question by free elections under supervision of the UN
9) Prolong the conferences to ban atomic tests because the US has agreed to suspend tests as long as negotiations are in progress
10) Allow all Soviet Satellites individual representation in the UN
11) Promote the UN as the only hope for mankind. If its charter is rewritten, demand that it be set up as a one world government with its own independent armed forces. (Some Communist leaders believe the world can be taken over as easily by the UN as by Moscow. Sometimes these two centers compete with each other as they are now doing in the Congo)
12) Resist any attempt to outlaw the Communist Party
13) Do away with loyalty oaths
14) Continue giving Russia access to the US Patent Office
15) Capture one or both of the political parties in the US
16) Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions, by claiming their activities violate civil rights.
17) Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for Socialism, and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers associations. Put the party line in text books.
18) Gain control of all student newspapers
19) Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack.
20) Infiltrate the press. Get control of book review assignments, editorial writing, policy-making positions.
21) Gain control of key positions in radio, TV & motion pictures.
22) Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all form of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to "eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings", substitute shapeless, awkward, and meaningless forms.
23) Control art critics and directors of art museums. " Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art".
24) Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them "censorship" and a violation of free speech and free press.
25) Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography, and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio and TV.
26) Present Homosexuality, degeneracy, and promiscuity as "normal, natural, and healthy".
27) Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with "social" religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity, which does not need a "religious crutch"
28) Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the grounds that it violates the principle of "separation of church and state"
29) Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis.
30) Discredit the American founding fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the "common man".
31) Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of "the big picture:" Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists took over.
32) Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture - - education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc.
33) Eliminate all laws or procedures, which interfere with the operation of the Communist apparatus.
34) Eliminate the House Committee on Un-American Activities.
35) Discredit and eventually dismantle the FBI
36) Infiltrate and gain control of more unions.
37) Infiltrate and gain control of big business
38) Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand or treat.
39) Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Communist goals.
40) Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.
41) Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents. Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents.
42) Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate aspects of the American tradition; that students and special interest groups should rise up and make a "united force" to solve economic, political, or social problems.
43) Overthrow all colonial governments before native populations are ready for self-government.
44) Internationalize the Panama Canal.
45) Repeal the Connally Reservation so the US can not prevent the World Court from seizing jurisdiction over domestic problems. Give the World Court jurisdiction over domestic problems. Give the World Court jurisdiction over nations and individuals alike.

Unfortunately, there is a numbness to the warnings.

They have tried to get everyone's attention but no cigar.

Part of the problem is that Hollywood and Academia have denied or ignored threats. They no longer accept terrorism as serious. Edwards got cheers when he said it was no more than a bumper sticker slogan. Then of course he switched and got tough saying we should not sell the Saudis weapons because they are responsible for the serious terror threat he just said does not exist. Whatever.
I have bad news Ern. Harry Reid is right, this war is lost. The divisions in the country and the willingess to play politics with the lives of the military and the creation of apathy toward terrorism says we are finished. You can not sustain a victorius campaign without the support of the people. It's over, we have been vanquished.

Time we not only pulled out of Iraq but all the middle east. Total capitulation. The Koreans are about to do it as 16 other nations have, including Italy, Japan, the netherlands and most notably Spain after a train bombing. The Dutch refuse to bring ammunition to Afghanistan.

While we're at it we can pull out of the obsolete NATO. We pay 4.5% of GDP into it while the rest pay 2.5% to combat the Soviet threat. Oh no more Soviets, I almost forgot.

The UN sits atop the world's most valuable real estate. Waterfront property on the east side of Manhattan. The income from that alone could fund SDI and secure borders. Help them pack and they can move to a vacant NATO HQ in Belgium.

Use the military money we save for the development of alternative fuels and the Saudi Wahabists can go back to herding goats at the Oasis.

Build Fortress America and accomodate the rest of the world with thier wish that we not meddle in their affairs.

The UN can deal with pivotal strategic issues like Korea, Iran, Darfur, South America, and the world oil supply.

Better get ready because I see no american statesmen on the Horizon that will have the gumption to deploy our troops and run the risk of getting hammered like Bush has, even with all their tough talk.

Of course that will mean every pocket dictator will launch and there will be fires burning everywhere but if any country can weather that storm, it's us. We'll deal with what's left when the smoke clears

EDIT: Just to illustrate what I'm talking about, there is an example right below me. Look down.
He's not the only one.

So, first of all, you say you want "drop the partisan arguing" but end with "I will ....Will You?" which reads a bit antagonistic to me.

Secondly, the office of Homeland Security has us at a threat level of yellow:
http://www.dhs.gov/xprepresp/
And high (orange) for the airline industry.
So could you post a link to what you are referring to?

Third, yes we can all be more vigilant. Particularly watch for any suspicious activity around any form of transportation, rather it be bus terminal or airport. Keep in mind that public workers should have ID tags and identifiable vehicles. So if you see a group of guys hanging around a bridge with an unmarked van or truck and not wearing appropriate gear, observe then report if you think it prudent. Remember, that the police can easily verify if work is scheduled to be done in public places, so dont feel shy about calling.

I think we should unleash our hackers to tear up their web sites and give them rewards on how much damage they can do to them.

If Al Queda real was going to do something they would keep in under wraps.

This is not the same nation prior to 9/11 too many people are being aware. Mark those word AWARE not in fear.

Being aware stop the Ft. Dix attack, alerted us to the dry runs with the blocks of cheese, no one has made it to the cockpit since 9/11 all stop by the passengers.

We have to watch ourselves and not sit back and let it happen again.

My added wish is we stop this political infighting that shows the bad guys were are not determine to stop them.

Certainly, I would. All the partisan bickering borders on childish foolishness, and it has never been more apparent that "establishment" Washington needs to just go away. Anyone serving in one post for more than say, 12 years should pack it up and try something else.

I can't understand why people refuse to collaborate and compromise for the greater good? So you don't get exactly every detail you want, and concede a couple of points. How is this country ever going to move forward?! Especially when there is a real, tangible threat to all of our lives and way of life.

My entire state has less people than Manhattan.. plus they would have to make it through Texas or Oklahoma or Missouri or Mississippi or Tennessee or Louisiana to get here.. then through all the people with guns who live around me... and then get away with whatever notorious act they were planning without being caught not only by the authorities.. but by some country boy that knows how to shoot a deer rifle and has a lot of land to hide the body....

I'm really not that worried.. but if I saw something out of place.. I'd still take notice and let someone know.

Edit: what are you talking about man.. it's not like I can look on the news and say "oh man.. that looks suspicious" You can only observe what is around you.. and believe me when I say that in Arkansas.. as in many southern states.. they would dissapear.

Sometimes we don't agree with each other, Earl. But you are right.

It's interesting to me that more people are interested in the pushing the limits of political division than in trying to reach a consensus on how to handle our problems.

In WWII, the country had local defense groups to watch the coastline for Japanese or German subs, training and procedures for businesses in how to spot potential spies, and other practices developed by the government.

Now this training seems to be done on an ad hoc basis by sensitive industries, like banking and air travel and defense, but nothing else. It would make sense to have a comprehensive training program (like we have at my bank) on how to spot and report unusual behavior. Maybe we don't have one yet because the government is trying to protect the intelligence it has about domestic terrorism and they fear that "loose lips sink ships."

But a little more attention to the threat makes more sense than endless shows about facelifts, Paris Hilton, and dating.

I think "RJ" summed up pretty much what the average person can do. It is a matter of being aware of the things around you.

Yet it seems that Americans are less and less aware of their surroundings. Last Year a Grad Student (at John Jay College of Criminal Justice no less) was killed because her friends left her alone in a bar in NYC late at night and some nut job got her. When I was younger we were always told to travel in groups and especially not to let the "girls" go home a lone. (Sorry if that sounds sexist). We seem to have forgotten that we are "Our brothers' keeper" that we do have to look out for one another and for our nation. We need to remind our kids and each other of this

Whatever their reasons and however we think we need to deal with them long term or short. Terrorist are out to destroy our way of life. We need to be aware of the things around us and to help legitimate law enforcement when ever we can.

Amazing how the liberals have blasted Bush for not protecting us adequately (despite no homeland attacks since 911), but then call him a liar if the government issues a warning. When it suits them, they attack him on civil liberty grounds and call conservatives alarmists and paranoid. Which is it?

Whatever you do, don't observe young Muslim males. That's profiling.

Seems like the attack everything.

YES !

The divisiveness is killing people. When we think in terms of con/lib. dem/rep, Christian/Muslim, we waste time and energy that could be used to solve problems.

Only when we, as humans, see that what we ALL have in common is far greater than our differences, will we be able to work together towards solutions.

The terrorism can only be addressed by libs, cons, Christians, and Muslims working together toward common goals. Either we are mature enough to do this, or we die.
