determining gender through sonogram or ultrasound is just an educated guess. its not an exact science and sometimes it can be wrong (not too often though they are good at determining the gender by looking at it) most practitioners wait until around 20-22 weeks for the sonogram to determine the sex. that way the baby is well formed, bigger and its easier to tell. the dr can do an Amniocentesis as early as 14 weeks to determine the sex, but it is generally not recommended because of its risks, it is usually recommended to determine if the baby will have a disorder such as down syndrom if there are apparent risks. the practitoner generally waits until 16-20 weeks to do this test. it isnt usually used to determine the sex of the child, and most wont do it for that reason (its unnessasary and invasive, and the risks arent worth it to find out the sex of the baby) wait until the ultrasound around 20-22 weeks to find out, but know that it isnt 100% accurate (although close) and only way to know for sure is to wait until he/she arrives!
congrats on the pregnancy!

A doctor can usually tell gender around 16-18 weeks. With 18 weeks being the more liekly of the two. You only have a few more weeks to wait.

Through an amnio they can tell as soon as you are pregnant, since they look at chromosomes. Through sonogram I think the earliest is 16 weeks.

I believe it's closer to 14 wks. Often providers will have you get a 20 wk screen, at which point they can tell, as long as the baby cooperates (mine didn't, but I work in radiology, so got a friend to take a peek a week later)

You actually could find out now even through a simple blood test.... but doctors normally won't do it because of the cost. You'll definitely know in a few weeks when you get your next ultrasound though!

I saw my baby boy at 14 weeks! I think if it's a boy, you can tell earlier.... beacuse you actually see something. But later on you can see both as well, just because you couldn't see it was a boy early on, doesn't mean that it's a girl automatically.
Hope this helps!
