Is it true that Rap Music was invented by Blondie?

I read somewhere on the net that Rap Music was invented by Blondie. does anyone know if that is correct or not?

She didn't invent rap music. But she di d have one of the first rap songs. It is called Rapture and is very similar to Rapper's Delight by the Sugarhill Gang.

search out an ethnomusicology site for a better answer but rap, more specifically, rapping, is an oral tradition that has existed for a VERY long time in the African or African American culture.

As far as putting it to the beat, it started off focusing around the DJs in hip hop culture. The MCs would get on stage and grab the mic while the DJ was mixing the music and say short sayings that eventually started rhyming. Over the years in the late 70s, the MCs rhymes got more complex and throughout the early-mid 80s, the focus became less on the DJ and more on the MC.

As far as the first rap song, the Fatback Band had a song called King Tim III that is generally accepted as the first rap song along with Rapper's Delight by The Sugar Hill Gang.

As far as DJ Kool Herc goes, he didn't invent rap music but his unique style of mixing back and forth between the breaks on two turntables is what set the foundation for hip hop music to rap over.

Note: The Sugar Hill Gang was not a "real" rap group and were really just a studio rap group. Those lyrics were stolen from Grandmaster CAS AKA Cassanova.

Not true. The roots of rap are unclear, look it up on Wikipedia. Although Debbie Harry of Blondie did do one of the first raps on a record, a song called Rapture.

Blondie did not create rap but she did make song that went to number one and that's when people start to listen to it. Everyone back in those days loved Blondie. It did not matter what color you were.
