Why do so many people have a "holier than thou" attitude on here?

Abu2, you won't like my answer, but I can't agree. None of my Congressmen/women have even come close to a scandal, an ethical problem or dishonest dealings. And that goes for members of both parties. Some of mine are well-off financially, but none are among the extremely wealthy. My state has 1 more Republican than Democrat and I've been extremely impressed at how well they cooperate in the best interest of my state. I'm bound to disagree with their political decisions at times (both sides), but they work together well and are honest. They also do not give convenient answers. They tell you how they feel about an issue and why. Individual phone calls get returned promptly and they do help their individual constituents. The problem is, you never see a news story about a good politician and I'll bet there are many. My personal Congresswoman rents a one-room basement apartment in D.C. None of my Congress members own homes in Washington and they don't take bribes. When the feds were going to close one of our military bases, they all united and found a new mission for the base that kept it open legitimately.

The real question is are our elected representatives merely a reflection of the society they come from and in fact it is we collectively that are "crooked".

Cheating on expense accounts, padding insurance claims, lying about adultery, illegally profiting on insider trading tips, making quid pro quo deals with anyone and everyone to get an advantage, booking off sick when not sick, illegally hiring illegals do do our grounds upkeep and a thousand other jobs at slave labour rates, lying when we hope or think we can get away with it , and a thousand other examples.

The ONLY difference between the level of corrupt politicians and the general public is simply OPPORTUNITY.

Politicians are in a perfect postion to attract many who want to corrupt them into using a politician's powers of legislation and connections to get what THEY want and as we all know many politicians cannot resist the quid pro quo ILLEGAL benefits ..

There is NOTHING that tells me that the average citizen GIVEN THE SAME OPPORTUNITY would not do EXACTLY THE SAME THING TO THE SAME DEGREE THAT POLITICIANS DO.

Everybody needs a whipping boy to exorcize their hypocricy so I guess politicians will fill the bill.

I therefore suggest that one of the people who has a "holier-than-thou" attitude here is this very asker as he without any evidence at all points a finger at politicians only.

As there are some politicians that are not "crooked" ,I guess maybe this asker is not one of the crooked masses.

Absolutely no doubt that there are crooked SOBs of all ilk in politics. Sometimes one side has more than the other. Lately the GOP has the most. Other times more Dems may have been busted for being crooked. It is like the old adage. If you play with fire you will get burned.

I will agree that both sides are crooked and most likely it'll be an even split.

Aw, quit your whining. If you don't like 'em, don't vote for 'em. The Democratic party at its core believes in doing the right thing for the people, the country and the world. The Republican party at its core believes in doing whatever it takes to get more money.
