I live in the United States and want to invite my grandmother from India to visit us. I was wondering if she has to go to give a physical presence at the US Consulate in India or can she apply and get her visa via mail. Is there any consession because of her age?

I agree with you regarding going there to see her. The thing is she has heard a lot of rosy things about US and wants to see it with her own eyes. She would have to apply to the right regional consulate depending on where she lives and appear for fingerprints for getting visa. She is just 1 year short of availing the drop box facility.

You may ask this question to the travel agent. I think they can help you and will solve your problem. You have to pay few extra charges for it. go to the website http://www.vacations-india.net and ask your question. Definately you will get the solution.

She has to personally appear for interview at U.S.Consulate. No concession is given for elderly people.
