It can't be A-Rod can it? He is batting under .300 now. Sure he has 35 home runs, but his team is not even a playoff team if they started today. And again, his average is not that good.

Agree with your statement. IF he does not pick up that average -and if the team does not make the playoffs - then his "value" is not a factor. Because all that value got the team nowhere. I feel right now that Curtis Granderson is the true MVP. He sets the table for a good Tigers team. That - and his 16 triples is unreal.

If it were that simple to just add up home runs and rbi's there wouldn't be any voting going on now would there? If you measure just production alone, you don't get an accurate picture of who is really that valuable to thier team. The most Valuable player should be someone if you took them off that team, the team wouldn't be where they are now. In my opinion, it really shouldn't be someone from a playoff team either, because usually a team like that is well balanced enough to overcome the loss of a single player. In the Rodriguez arguement, sorry to say, both Jeter and Posada have been more valuable to NY then he has. I'd go with Vladimir Guerreo in helping keep the Angels offence going and driving towards winning the division.

I would say no to A-Rod unless the Yankees make the playoffs for the same reason most people were saying they couldn't vote for Ortiz last year because the Red Sox didn't make the playoffs. I would say A-Rod would definitely be in the running for MVP if the Yankees make the playoffs but if not I say nope...right now I say give it to Magglio Ordonez...he could get it even if the Yankees make the playoffs and A-Rod is in the running.

Your question is who is the AL MVP, the answer is ARod, it would take a very hot last 2 months by someone else to overtake him. Honestly the average doesn't mean much. Writers and voters look more at production...i.e slugging and on-base percentages. He will probably end up back over .300, but if average were so important Tony Gywnn woulda won a few. Its simply impossible to ignore that he leads the majors in HR and RBI

If the MVP is about most productive player, then he should be it, but if it's for the player with the most value to his team, one poster was right, with Arod, it would still be a potent lineup and he probably doesn't make that much difference.

Going on the notion that the MVP transforms the team into something better, I would go with Magglio Ordonez, Grady Sizemore or Vladimir Guerrero.

As a Yankee fan, I am hopeful it will be a Yankee. However, as good a year that ARod is having, I would give the MVP to Jorge Posada. Where would the team be without him this year! He has his share of Home Runs, but he has been generally a more consistent hitter and right now his average is 3rd in the AL. It is unheard of for a 36 year old Catcher to be playing this well.

Ok, I'm a Mariners fan so obviously I'm biased in this. Ichiro. The guy is doing great this season. See him throw out the Angel trying to make it home on a pop fly on Wed? His 1.000 fielding avg. Hes currently hitting .351 and has an OBP of .402. He does what his team needs, gets on base to give the defense a hard time with his speed, 30 SBs this year and give them a chance to bring him in for runs. He'd get my vote this year hands down for his superb defense and offense.

You don't have to be on a good team to be MVP like Arod did with the Rangers. By numbers alone, it has to be Arod. I would give it to either Mags or Victor Martinez. They have both carried their teams to playoff runs.

Alex for sure. He's hitting .298 has 35 HR's and 103 RBI's. If he continues with his barrage he could top 50HRs 130 RBI's and hit .310 or so. Those are MVP stats.
