All but 4 Dems in the Senate voted to renew the Patriot Act after they moaned about it for years.

Even Harry Reid voted to renew it after he proudly said, "I killed the Patriot Act!"

What does this tell you about Dems ?

(Every Dem? almost..not quite)

Yes, the Dems moaned about the Patriot Act... then listened to Bush.

It says that most of them (elected officials) are foolish and spineless and don't actually stand up for what they claim to believe in..

Which is why they all need to GO.

The re-authorized Patriot Act contained 27 provisions to protect civil liberties that the original act trampled. So no one voted to re-authorize the original Act, only the modified one.

Facts, gentlemen. You should always look for facts.

Of course: "Bush signed the reauthorization of the Act on March 9, 2006. After the public ceremony, he issued a "signing statement" to the effect that he would not feel bound to comply with some of the provisions of the law if they conflicted with other Constitutional laws. This statement, though common throughout his Presidency, has been negatively covered by the media and criticized for an apparent intention to withhold information that the Act required him to provide to Congress."

So basically, Congress said "We'll approve it, but only under these new conditions." Then Bush said, "I'll sign it, but I'm going to ignore these new conditions." Typical Bush.

It tells me that national politicians from BOTH parties are either
a. immoral and wrongheaded in their blanket support for a terrible law
b. disingenuous and likely to change positions depending on how the winds are blowing(I never liked Harry Reid)
c. far too afraid that, if they did the right thing, the so-called "liberal media" would tirelessly blast them as waffling on terrorism, being soft, or aiding our enemies, etc.

No reason is an excuse. This is why even though I am on the political left, I have little respect for the Democratic Party.
I'm also angry they pushed through an Iraq funding bill last month even though Bush vetoed the previous, time line-containing proposal. Many of their members are undisciplined, wavering, and pretty gutless.

They spout off a bunch of liberal crap, but they know the real truth is that America needs the patriot act. It's about freedom and safety.

No, I hope it means they actually recognize the threat Islamic terrorism poses to this country. They only act like they don’t to appease their uniformed, delusional, head in the sand, moon-bat, far left base. Like you evidently…

They love that control and will use it after their Nanny State is established (they think). Thank goodness the voters will be smarter than to let hem in. :)
