Ok, so here's the harry-ginny love story ...
Ginny has a huge crush on harry since like forever, and gets really excited when she sees him when he comes back from hogwarts in his first year.... he doesnt like her though, just as 'his best friend's little sister'. I'm supposing ginny likes harry because he's famous, and stuff..but not sure. but she is intrigued by how famous he is ...
In the 2nd book ginny goes to hogwarts, and writes all her problems and feelings about harry into Tom riddle's (voldemort) diary, when she is possessed by him... then harry goes down to save her,...aaw..!! she still likes him but he still doesnt like her in that way.
In the 3rd book, nothing much happens, she just still likes him...
4th book, ginny goes with neville to the Yule ball because, well, if she didnt go with him, she wouldnt be able to go at all (Yule ball was for 4th years and over). she still likes harry. And MIGHT be going out with michael corner.. In the meantime harry has a huge crush on Cho chang, and she likes him too...but this romance is solely based on looks, and not personality, as they dont really know each other.. cho goes with cedric diggory to the yule ball, and harry asks her as well, but gets rejected (coz cedric asked first). They are very nervous around eachother (esp harry). ... then cedric dies at the end of the book..
5th book, harry still likes cho, so after a Dumbledore's army meeting they finally kiss.... but it was a bit awkward and "wet" due to her crying over cedric. ...she is very weepy over him and when they go out for the first time on valentine's , she cant stop crying over cedric, and gets jealous coz she thinks harry likes hermione.. and she walks out, ... so basically after that the relationship is over . Ginny is going out with michael corner definitely. .... but of course she still loves harry. she goes out with other people to "try and get over him, and loosen up around him" and stuff,,,
Ok now the 6th book!! Where things start to get interesting!! Ginny broke up with michael at the end of the last book, and is now going out with dean thomas, one of harry's gryffindor roomies/friends. And yes she still loves harry. Harry is completely over cho, coz it wasnt even true love anyway. it was just a crush which really wasnt meant to be. When harry and ron catch ginny and dean making out in the gryffindor tower, ron gets protective of ginny and they fight and argue, while harry stands there feeling like punching dean and being jealous... he finally realises his feelings for ginny... he tries to convince himself his feelings are brother-sisterly ... but no, he doesnt think of her as his best mates little sister anymore.. ..
Finally after a detention with snape (and missing the quidditch match... he is captain now!!) he goes into the common room and finds cheering and celebrating, as they won. ron is over the moon (he played well and is part of the quidditch team). Then ginny rushes towards harry, and out of passion he kisses her ...!!!!!!! * squeal* Ron finally gives harry a look which means "well, if you must" and the glass in dean's hand smashes. This girl Romilda vane liked harry so she didnt like what she was seeing. the kiss , everyone in griffindor saw it....
Then harry and ginny were finally going out!! yay.. BUT then at the end of the 6th book harry breaks up with her, because he thinks voldemort will use people close to harry, and he will find out that he is dating ginny..
In the 7th book they kiss on harry's 17th birthday, but then ron interrupts (typical!) ... they stil love eachother of course, and , well, if you want to know the very ending .... then just ask!!
HARRY + GINNY FOREVER....
=)

You need to keep reading. Of course, Ginny sees him in the first book when he gets on the train. As you know from the movies, she has a crush on him in book 2 and can't talk around Harry; but get's rescued by him. Imagine how you would feel in her position at age 11. Eventually, she decides she needs to move on and does.
In book 5 she sees other boys. She even went to the ball with Neville in book 4. What I thought was cool in the movie for 5 is the look on her face when Harry isn't looking. In the books you can't see that; because although they are written in third person, they are mostly from Harry's perspective. We see what Harry sees and not what an audience would see. Of course, they don't get together until after book 5. But I don't want to give too much away. So, keep reading. You need books 1-3 as a base, but 4-7 are the more exciting ones that you can't put down. So, enjoy!

Well, the movies don't show ANYTHING, do they? If you want to discover the Harry Potter world, the movies will help you as much as sugar will help you in making salted snacks. The books are the real treasure. Borrow all of them from a library and read slowly, you will get to know how Harry and Ginny fall for each other and everything else.
I wish they start a Harry Potter TV-soap, real or animated, and show the entire series in different episodes. There will easily be 200-250 episodes in it.

Ginny looks older in the 5th movie. But in the 6th book, Harry and Ginny ended up being together, after things with Cho didn't work out.

Spoilers:
In the first four books, we don't really see much of Ginny (other than in the 2nd book) and she is shy around Harry due to her major crush on him. But in the 5th one, we not only see more of her, but we see that she isn't in that shy shell anymore and that she acts like herself around Harry. Though it is not as obvious (I know it took me a long while to realize this), Harry pays more attention to her in the 5th book, and I think that was J. K.'s subtle hinting at a relationship that might develop.
Then in the 6th book, Ginny becomes even more prominent and more involved in the books. Harry develops feelings for her, which can obviously be seen when he finds her kissing in the hall with another boy. Finally, they aknowledge their feelings for each other when Harry kisses her after a Quidditch match, and we learn that she never really gave up on Harry, but decided to be more loose around him. And that's when their relationship begins.

After that debacle of some type of relationship with Cho Chang in books 4 and 5, Harry has had enough of "crying" women.
In book 6, Harry sees in Ginny someone who is strong, understanding, popular and beautiful. He stops seeing her as just Ron's sister, but begins looking at her as the lovely young woman that she has become.
At the same time, he's conflicted about this because she is Ron's little sister, and because Ron is his best friend, she was sort of like a surrogate little sister to him.
But after they won the Gryffindor Quittich Cup in book 6, Ginny decides to take their relationship to another level by kissing Harry in celebration of their win.
Ron is okay with it and Harry and Ginny start seeing each other in book 6. But after Dumbledore is killed, Harry fears for Ginny's life and decided that he and Ginny should stop seeing each other before Voldemort uses her to get to him. She understands his motive and reluctantly agrees.
But their feelings for each other never died. So after the final battle, they resume seeing each other and as they say, the rest is history (in book seven).

She's not a major player until about the third book, and they don't get together until the 6th book. If you'll remember right, the stage is already set to a certain degree in the first book. Remember how shy she was around him? And in later books Ron comments that she's never as quiet and shy as she is when she's around Harry. Remember, she's about 3 years younger than Harry--the hormones haven't kicked in yet in the first book.

Harry starts crushing on her at the beginning of the sixth book, but doesn't realize he likes her until he sees her kissing Dean Thomas. Ginny says she "never gave up on Harry", and was dating other people just to be more confortable around him.

Yeah, the movie didn't really show it too well, in my opinion, but in the Chamber of Secrets, Ginny had a H-U-G-E crush on Harry. Plus, what she said *points above* they pretty much get together in the 6th book

Why not wait til you've read all the books and find out for yourself?
The biggest problem with brining this series to the screen is the amount that simply doesn't get into the script and onto the screen--as will become obvious as you read all of them. 700-900 page books will make films that can run 4-6 hours...
Enjoy the books--they're great.
