Mine is " Invasion of the body snatchers " l956, I was nine years ofd and was scared to fall asleep for weeks after seeing it. Remember the PODS.
Second would be Soylent Green 1973 with Charlton Heston, all time great.

Too many to count.

Horror:
Halloween
Night of the Living Dead
Night of the Demons
The Abominable Dr. Phibes
House on Haunted Hill (original)
Spider Baby
Ju-On
Anything with Price, Cushing, Lee, or Karloff

Science Fiction:
Godzilla (or any other Toho giant monster flick)
Blade Runner
Rollerball (orig)
2001
The Day the Earth Stood Still
Just About any 50's rocket or invasion film

And that's just for starters. I'm terribly promiscuous when it comes to loving films.

I liked the 1956 version of the Body Snatchers too with Kevin McCarthy. I saw it as a rerun on TV.

Not sure its a favorite but it scared me to death when I saw the original version of The Haunting with Julie Harris at the movies.

Also, there was one made in Britain that scared the living day lights out of me called Curse of the Demon starring Dana Andrews and Peggy Cumins (1958). I saw it at the drive-in movie when I was about 9 or 10. So authentic, I was having nightmares for years with that movie. Still eerie to watch - I cover my eyes when the demon appears.

The original The Fly--the remake scared to me death. The first Alien was also bad enough that I had to go into the lobby twice to calm down. Took my eldest son to a drive in movie called The Hills Have Eyes, we had to leave, freaked us both out and we liked scarey movies, that would have been in about 78 or 79.

Favorite sci-fi is 2001 by far. Favorite horror movie would probably be Nightmare on Elm St. (and only the original). That movie was genius.

It's not Sci-Fi but the scariest movie for me is 'The Night of the Hunter' with Robert Mitchum and Shelley Winters.

"Dune" and the "Time machine" (original version). They really made me think. I liked "Soylent Green" too but loved "Planet of the Apes". I snuck into the drive-in to see that!

The Alien Trilogy. I have watched this many, many times with my daughters, as a weekend "Alien Fest". And if you like the genre, Alien vs Predator isn't half bad either.

Don't lol. King Kong! I laughed so hard when everyone put on those dark glasses and when king Kong made his first appearance that I embarrassed my date and he moved 2 aisles behind me when I wouldn't stop. We farm kids didn't get to the movies to often.
