I think he doesn't want to have the lasting image of him breaking the homerun record filled with a stadium of booing people. So he's probably trying to whiff on purpose.

Honestly, I agree with you 100%. It's not really a big deal if he ties the record on the road, but for sure he wants to break the record at home. In the Dodgers series, he was coming out of the game in the 7th, but then again, they were also pitching around him. I'll bet money that he sits out the first or last game in the next series.
If he breaks the record anywhere but at home, I would be completely shocked.

Barry is image conscience so, sure, he would much prefer to hit his HRs at home. He can't exactly sit out road games though... there's that image thing again. He's got to at least make it appear like he's trying.

He hasn't done a good job of it ... a .140 avg the past month. His post-season numbers suck too. Hmmm maybe he isn't faking it. His track record shows he folds under pressure. Maybe BB is just being BB... a natural choker.

of course you are exactly right. I saw a clip of when bonds came to some stadium they brought asterics** and threw plastic suringes on the field. Thats not the kind of atmosphere encouroging you to brake a record. Half of san fran knows hes a cheat but they could care less if there team wins

I don't think he is. I'd assume he would want to get it over with as fast as possible, so the media rush would die down.

You have to realize he's not the homerun hitter he used to be. Also, it seems like he gets at least 2 walks per game, so he's not putting the ball in play every at bat.

It's called a slump. True baseball fans can see it a mile away! He would not care where he hits the milestone HR. Home, away, he'll not let the Giants dictate where he hits it. If he was not slumping, he'd already have the HR title.

I really doubt it.

Bonds is old and his next injury could be his last. I doubt he would give up at bats just to not hit the HR at home. You just never know what could happen.

He has been trying too hard. The home run record thing has gotten into his head. It has happened with him before, just before #700, catching Babe Ruth, and now.

He'd be trying a lot harder if he had one home game left before a 10 game road trip.

of course not. if he really wanted to not hit a HR in LA then he would have just sat out the series yet he played in all of them.

Oh, he gets bood in SF too. I think he's just clapsing under the enormous pressure.
