Definitely, I have known a few couple that's been living together happy and content without getting married, why ruin the good relationship if after getting married all the bad stuff has to come out. Being together even not being married is a good way to live as long as the two people knows who they are and what they want being together......and I will say...hurray for those two..

My manager at work has been with her boyfriend for 7 years now and they have a kid together and she has a kid from a previous marriage. They are going to wait until they are together for 10 years before they tie the knot.
Technically, theres a thing called common law marriage that defines any 2 people who are together for 10 years as a married couple.

I'd say yes - a couple can have a healthy, long-lasting, successsful r'ship without getting married. Whether they get married or not is a very personal decision and something no one else should try to talk them into. People see marriage differently. Some see it as "just a piece of paper" and feel they shouldn't need that to prove their love for one another. Other couples feel it's much more than a piece of paper but rather a sacred and religious promise to one another. I say - to each his own.

I know a couple who have been together for longer than that & not married.
I also hope to be with my partner for a very long time yet to come & we have no plans to marry.
Commitment is in the heart & the mind & not always found on a certificate.

Yes, they can. A friend of my husband's has been with his s/o for about this long, but they are not officially married. I don't see why they should get married unless it is something they both want to do; it really is a personal choice that doesn't affect anyone else but the couple involved.

Yes, they can, but I think marriage is the best solution. It's morally right, and it's God's way. It's also very beneficial if children are involved. Also, I think if couples really love each other they should show one another respect and get married.

Sure, look at Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed. They have been happily together for over 20 years. They may as well be married as they own houses, cars etc and have kids together.

Of course. I just officiated at a wedding ceremony for a couple that had lived together very successfully for 29 years.

In many cases the law begins to treat them as if they were married after seven (social security benefits for example)

Of course they can...... marriage is overrated, it's only a paper..... why do you need to sign a paper to spend your life with the one you love???
I do know about couples who have been together for decades without being married..... so the committment was there, paper or no paper.... they were together cuz they WANTED to and that's all that matters -- so I don't think there's need for getting married after "X" years of living together..... if they're happy that way, let it stay that way!
