For taxpayers to have to pay for their operations and estrogen! I think this is getting out of hand and a lot of judges today aren't worth a a nickel. Example: that judge that was going to sue a dry cleaner 67 million dollars over his pants! Think of all the money that was used just for that case to get thrown out!

I hear a lot in the news regarding the poor judgment of judges now. Some being downright horrible! Now, keep in mind, I am not saying all judges are bad. But this one about wanting taxpayers to pay for sex changes for the inmates in prison seems too far. Why should, in this case, residents of Idaho have to pay this? I find it wrong, it is showing prisoners having more rights and privileges than that of the free people. I am sure people who choose to do this would want their changes to be paid for, at least they are not criminals in prison. What you think about judges today and having your taxes go towards now inmate sex changes?

Yes I did read them. And I still find them ridiculous and wrong. Taxpayers should not have to pay for any of that. Let the families of the inmates pay for it if anything! Castrated or not. Nor did I say they are now, but it seems to be in the works and I am only pointing out and asking would you want your tax money to go towards this.

No!!!!!! Not even if pigs could fly!!!!! As a retired Correctional Officer I know first hand that the offenders (new politically correct title for a criminal) have more rights than the law abiding citizen. When you have a person incarcerated on death row getting a Masters Degree (with Pell and other Grants) who is the one being penalized you or the prisoner?
Can you expect to have a Dr. at your beckon call 24/7 ? I don't think so. Do you eat three hot meals a day? Prisoners do and complain and file lawsuits if one gets more, or a cookie is broken and so on. Thesse people have the courts so tied up with their frivilous lawsuits (which until recently cost them nothing to file and now it cost $5) that in some cases it may take years to go to court due to the back log.

Regarding poor judgement of Judges . I think most of them have one toe well over the thin line between sane and insane. They have taken the Constitution and twisted it to fit their agendas so that it is barely recognizeable. When a burgular comes breaks into your home and you defend yourself, he/she can sue you for hurting him/her and taking away their means of a living (yes this has happened and the burgular won! ) It seems that anyone with commonsense are few and far between when it comes to Judges.

Glad to know that there are others who have noticed the inside out justice system we have fallen into in this country. The only way I have found to combat it is to vote. I try to vote for anybody who has never been in the political arena before. If we can vote these mental midgits out of their office maybe we will have a chance to bring justice for all back into the judical system.

Absolutely not. There are a hundred other matters that taxpayers money should be going to and helping inmates "get their jollies" is not one of them. I understand medication is an essential and no one should be refused health care but you've been the same sex this long why don't you wait 'til you get out and do it on your own time with your own money. After the sex change, if the taxpayers paid for it, will we all receive thank you cards with a nice photo of what our tax money bought? That is so ridiculous and disgusting. If these 3 men are looking to have female parts then that's just going to add to problems in jail. Might as well start putting men and women in the same prisons together if male inmates can go around getting free sex changes. This frustrates me so much. People will do anything. ANYTHING.

Did you read the article...?

The judge "ordered the state to provide the inmate with psychotherapy and estrogen pending a trial." after the inmate "castrated herself/himself using a disposable razor blade"

The judge ordered medical and psychological treatment for someone who was committing serious injury on themself. No different that ordering treatment for an attempted suicide.

The judge did not say "taxpayers must pay for all sex changes". The judge ONLY said "this one innmate gets medical and psychological treatment so he doesn't hurt himself again while in custody.

And frivilous lawsuits -- like the pants -- happen all the time. The people (lawyers, or here a judge) who file them often lose their license or receive sanctions for doing so.

Your generalizations are not a correct interpretation of the factual or legal issues. And you're talking about a very few out of tens of thousands of judges nationwide.

A criminal loses thier rights to vote and other freedoms allowed them when they are tossed in the prison system. The penal system (don't ya love that word in this question) is not in effect to improve the quality of life of the inmate. They committed a crime against society and are to get rewarded by giving in to this 'request'. If there is a chance of the criminal transexual ever getting parole, then the surgery should be put off until then, and only if the parolee is in a financially 'healthy' state ot pay for it, either by his/her own funds or by donations, not on the tax payer's dime either while in prison or on public assistance.

Addendum: To refer to someone asking for gender reassignment as a clinical need similar to a diabetic's need for insulin is insulting. A diabetic needs insulin to survive....a transgender 'needs' this surgery to 'feel good about themselves'....Hellllooooo....they are in prison, they should feel bad about what put them there and realize that they can't have anything their little heart desires.

You know what? i completely agree with you on this subject. i had no idea that this was circulating in the news, yet i am very upset. im so tired of knowing that this inmates are treated far better than us american people who pay taxes, insurance costs, health insurance and just about everything else we need or want. they get free dental and medical attention, and here we are scraping the bottom of the barrel to try and get something done!! But above all this just takes the cake. i completely respect anyones sexual preference, and i do know that it is hard for gays or lesbians in prison, but to pay for sex changes???!!!!!! why should we be responsible for this as well??

For a transsexual person, hormone therapy and surgery are a clinical need, not a choice.

Transsexualism is a congenital medical condition; it's incurable, but it IS treatable.A prisoner is not able to pay for that treatment; does that mean he or she should be denied it? Would you deny prisoners with diabetes insulin? Or prisoners with tonsillitis tonsillectomy?
Withholding medical treatment from a prisoner is regarded as 'cruel and unusual punishment' and violates international agreements on human rights, subscribed to by all civilised countries.

["la cookie"; not all transsexual people are gay or lesbian; around 40% of transsexual women, and around 80% of transsexual men, are straight.]
