I think that you should look forward to telling your mother. Moms wait for things like that like your first steps, first words, etc. She is anxious to share the experience with you. She will more than likely tell you stories about her periods along with picking out all the supplies that you will need. I think that that is one of the best experiences that I ever shared with my mom.

"Hey Mom. Can you pick me up some pads please?"

That's it. We all go through it, don't be uncomfortable.

[whole conversation was yelling down/up the stairs. I'm sure the entire house heard it.]
Me, at 12 (from my basement room): Moooomm!
Mom: Yea?
Me: Can you come down here?
Mom: I'm kind of busy, can it wait?
Me: Not really.
Mom: Did you get your period?
Me: MOM! *embarrassed*

Side note: Don't let your Mom pick out your pads after the first month or so, they always seem to think that you need big giant diaper sized mazi pads when really the much thinner ones work just as well and are more comfortable.

When you have it, go to your mom and tell her you need some feminine things. She will understand what you are saying and then she will start in with it and talk to you about it and get you what you need. Or you can go to her and tell her that you started. Say "Mom, I just started. What do I do now?" She will be more than happy to help. When I did, I just went and told mine that I started the monthly thing. It was easy. It isn't that big of a deal, so relax and just tell her.

Just tell her, she'll understand. Say calmly, as in don't make her panic as if it's the end of the world. It's not like you're gonna get grounded for it.

I live with my dad, it's just the two of us... I just tell him that I need what I refer to as "lady plug products". Don't make it too big of a deal, just let her know you're not craving chocolate and going into panic attacks for no reason...

text her on her phone

your mother isnt going to make a big deal about it, just go up and say mom, I started my period I need some pads or tampons, just remember talk to your mom about tampons and leaving them in too long and getting toxic shock syndrome,

"Mom I got my period"

"Ok, do you need pads?"

"no, I have one from your drawer"

"Ok, we can run and get more tomorrow"

THAT was how I told her and the conversation afterwards.
