You are correct those are seed pods where the flower was. Hostas are not always fertile but it can be interesting to grow the seeds to see what you will get. You will not see a plant just like the parent in most cases but that is the point of hybridizing, to see a new plant. If your plant was variegated chances are good you will see some different marking but if the parent was one solid color you will have all solid colored offspring.
Collect the seed after at least 30 days ripening on the plant.

Some types of hostas have long stems that grow out from them and produce a nice flower. Mine are just coming up out of my hostas in the front of my house and they are in a bulb form right now. I expect the purple flowers will bloom soon. The actual plant itself will have a root system underground that will come back year after year (perennial), and can be dug up and moved to relocate in the fall. :)

Yes they are seeds.
If you do not want to do anything with the seeds, cut the stalks off as soon as the flowers die.
The stalks rob nutrients from the plant.

No. The hosta comes with a thingy you plant in the ground, they grow from the ground up.
