I'd prefer something between 3 and 7 miles round-trip. Anything really beautiful to recommend?

There are a number of trails in Chautauqua Park that meander along the Flatirons that have spectacular scenery.

Here's an awesome website that provides very detailed information on all the trails in Boulder Open Space Mountain Parks: http://www.bouldercolorado.gov/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2794&Itemid=1035

Try their interactive webpage - incredible satellite photos and information on the trailheads and the trails.

Although I never got around to hiking this trail when I lived in Boulder, the Mount Sanitas loop trail is supposed to be pretty good. It's 3.1 miles round-trip and my guidebook says that the highlights are: "brilliantly colored sandstone formations, views of peaks and plains, wildflowers, wildlife". Also, the trail rating is: "moderate to difficult". If you're interested in hiking in the Boulder area, I recommend the book "Boulder Hiking Trails" by Ruth Carol Cushman and Glenn Cushman. Have fun :-).

I think one of your best choices would be climbing from Summit Lake to the top of Mt. Evans and back down. It is very beautiful.
