Well, what is it? You come out your moms tummy, you mature and go to school everyday, you learn new things, and then you go to college, learn more things, and soon get a job. But, it seems all you do your whole life is just work and help people a little! And sooner or later you die. Thats just sad! Well, at least I thank God for giving me one!

Life is empty and meaningless. It has no meaning by itself. It might sound harsh. But if it weren't empty and meaningless, we cant put any meaning into it. Everyone paints the life with colors of his/her/- choice.

80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

If you think dying is that bad. Then change it to living forever.

Ever read Tuck Everlasting? The family can never die. Do you know how hard it is to just live and live. We have goals because we want them to be finished before we die. If live was to be forever, the earth really needs an expansion. And people would just not go to jobs and etc. Since one, there's no goals, two, even if you're hungry or dying of thirst, you can't die. What's the point in going out to work then.

But the limit. It's the limit. The limit allows us to feel a need to rush things, to hurry up and finish our goals. because we want to have a meaning before we die. Don't want to die without anything done. Do you think you're going to die happy knowing you have done nothing special in your life?
Or would you be happier knowing you're done something special. If you're going to say being born and given a life by god is already special. Yes, it is special to be given a life. But do you know how many people wish to have a long life like yours too. Those many children, they die at early age. They aren't as special as you are, getting a chance to live longer, live fuller. If you're not going to cherish that, then what a waste. There's other people who wish to have it.

Either live it to the fullest or just donate it. There's millions of people wanting for a organ donation. If you don't cherish it, somebody else will.
Goodluck

again, really, If you think life is so easy, Get born, Mature, Learn, And work, then why can't you answer your own question? If you're so smart, how come you even have to question the question. because we all aren't living life to the fullest yet. Those who do, they know a lot, help a lot, and definitely cherish their life a lot. Just for the chance to life, to feel how it is.

It's like a book. Can you read only the beginning and the ending and skip the middle. I rather not. It one, ruins the story. Two, there's no climax, just a The end and Once upon a time.

Just live it as one chance. We're only given one lifetime to feel it. Just take it as a chance to do something special. Not everyone gets such a long life to even get to ask Whats the Meaning of Life. Not everyone is as happy as you are, living under a roof, having a computer, a way of communication.

How do we get it? We work for it. Without the meaning of life, we don't have to work, we get nothing. we live on the soil, we have no heating, no ac. We live for the meaning. We're waiting for the answer.

--------------
To me, I live so that i can feel how it is to be sad, to lose the most important thing to me, to be loved, to feel all those emotions. And then, to die, in a honorable, worthing way. Also to die only because either it's worth it or either because my life is just plainly over instead of suicide or accidents.

[Just ask yourself what you need and want]

Some people think it's happiness, some people think it's to create an eternal impression of yourself on the earth, and others believe that life exists to find your own, unique purpose. I used to linger on the same question about a year ago, but I finally had to accept that there is no answer. You can come up with your own opinion, but you will never know for sure. And who says there even is a purpose anyway? Perhaps life just exists and thats all there is to it. Your question is one with no definite answer.

This depends on your personal religious beliefs. If you are an atheist(though judging by your words I think that's probably pretty unlikely) then the meaning of life is to make more life. After all, I'm pretty sure the scientific definition of life is a sustained self-replicating chemical reaction.

On the other hand, if you are a Christian the meaning of life is effectively to try to reduce the amount of suffering in the world, though not necessarily your own. WWJD, you know?

If you are Hebrew, I suppose the purpose for your life is probably to obey the laws as described by Moses.

If you are Muslim, (and I'm not too sure about this one) your life's purpose is to obey the five pillars.

If you are anything else, well, it's your religion, figure it out. ;)

In my opinion though, the meaning of life is subjective. If you want it to have meaning, make one up for yourself. If you don't want one, well, then don't. Quite stress free.

We are all spirit souls, part and parcel of the Supreme Soul, also known as Krishna, Allah, Jehovah,Vishnu, etc. Though eternally we are one we are also different. (Unity in diversity and Diversity in Unity) We never die, only these mortal bodies die. This world is called Maya (illusion) which is The creators material energy. It is her job to keep the souls in the illusion that they desire. We left the spiritual world due to envying Gods position. We wanted to lordi it over so He gave us this world to try. When we are tired of suffering in this material world and we take up the process of Self realization (Bhakti yoga) we then at the end of life will return to the eternal Spiritual Kingdom where we all enjoy eternal, blissful, loving relationships. The energy always comes from the energetic. (God is not impersonal) The light energy that emanates from His eternal Spiritual Body is called Brahman or Nirvana. It is not the goal of life to merge into that. That is a temporary situation for those rascals who don't want to serve Him. The Goal is to Serve The Supreme Person named above. for info read Bhagavad Gita as it is By Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada asitis.com Tells all

What's Life?

It's a cereal.

What's it cost?

About 4 bucks.

I only have 2 bucks.

That's life.

Seriously, I think it's about joy. Small joys and big ones we find and share while appreciating the gift of being here. Think of it as waking up and finding yourself at Disneyland. Sure, you wonder how you got there and why, but have fun too, just because you are there. :-)

Don't look to other people for meaning. Decide what you want the meaning of your life to be and go for it. I'm using the heck out of this quote lately, but, what the hell, it's one off my favorites:

"You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life." - Albert Camus

i dont think we should ask what the meaning of life, i think we should ask what life is meant to be. if you want the technical, reality based answer its simply to survive. i mean the cro magnon werent sitting around wondering the meaning of life because they already knew it, survival. i think the definition of life can be found in what you make of it. i think that in the end all you have when you leave this world is what you did and i think that defines you as a person.
