Free reversible sterilization, like contraceptive implants or injections are a good idea. I have always believed we should help those who need it,and that includes helping them not get pregnant again while they are on welfare. Some, not all, but some people have it figured out to a science how to abuse the system...have a kid every few years, and you will get checks, food stamps, housing, free insurance, etc.

Just like I would be willing to help out my kid if they got in trouble ONCE, I think we should help people get educated and jobs and help for the kid . But just like I wouldn't let my kid do this over and over, I don't agree with financing other peoples repetitions.

That being said, permanent sterilization is not the answer. That woman may someday find a husband, and want a family, and should not be penalized because she was in a circumstance years before. By using temporary measures, the implant or shots can be stopped when they are supporting themselves, and they retain their right to have kids.

Where would it stop. Would you be the first up to be sterilized? We have to pay to have pets worked on. Come back and ask this question after you've got a little of the real life behind you.

OOOOooooooo...... What a question! Economically it makes good sense. A proponent would argue "why should my tax money continue to support this person when she keeps having more children?" Ethically, it has all sorts of problems and likely smacks of racism. I recall the Bay area doing norplant back in the 90's, or proposing to do so. I find no problem with temporary forms of birth control if one expects to receive money from the taxpayers.

I think you mean "offer" not "mandate" right? I think if its reversible, they should offer it. A lot of people know they can't afford anymore children, but can't afford birth control. I think that the government should provide it for free to anyone who needs it but can't afford it. It would save a lot of money in the long run. However, people shoud have to pay for the reversal themselves. In most states, however, you have to have a medical reason to even get the procedure done if you have never had children.

Whoa interesting... If they wanted to be sterilized? Well that means my tax dollars would go to pay for someone that could just as easily go out and buy a condom.

Governments should not be a large nanny.

No, because those are my tax dollars, and I would rather they be back in my pocket than be spent on people who are already getting a bunch of my hard-earned money.

Do you mean should we spayed them or nuture them? Ha.
Or do you mean we should provide condoms and birth control bills or pay for their abortions. I think if they want birth control items, then I think it would be alright. I'm not falling for your stupid question again, thank you very much
