Favre is toughest player ever! No one has played through worse injuries! Favre had a near fatal car wreck and had most of his intestines removed. The doctors said he would NEVER play again! Less than two weeks later he was leading his team to victory. They just recently changed the rules about touching the QB - Favre played a whole career without those rules. I would hate to a less tough guy like Manning break Favre's record because of the rule changes.

I gotta side with Daddyo on this one. If this question was who was the toughest QB - Favre for sure.
But you can in no way compare a QB in the NFL - where there is no veer type offense that would expose a QB to constant hits- you cant compare him to a RB, a lineman or even a middle linebacker - people who know they are going to experience contact on every play. Anyone of these positions that has played through 5 straight season is tougher than a QB that has played for 20 consecutive or not. Just like you cant say a kicker that has never missed a game is as tough as a QB.

250 some consecutive starts no doubt is a great acheivement. But once again, he's a QB. At the mercy of his linemen's worst game, he may have taken hits (not just sacks) 10-12 times in that one game. Most often about 4 or 5 times a game - some games (like against Detroit....LOL) he took no hits at all. He wasnt really known as someone who would take off and run too often. Still, to not miss a game is remarkable.
However, I would say any lineman (offense or defense) that has started 100 or more consecutive starts has my vote - if there are any. They have violent collisions every single play of every game (minus kneel downs). You cant even imagine what their bodies go through. Put Favre, in his prime, on the line for just 1 season and tell me how long he would last.

I AGREE COMPLETELY. Brett Favre can do it all. He may not be fast, but he'll have an ankle sprain & a strained knee and still run for a first down against a Ray Lewis or Shawn Merriman. Brett is one of the last (along with Isaac Bruce and Mark Brunell) true gut-it-out players in the NFL. Favre, as you said, is "hands down" the toughest in the NFL. I'd want him before 99% of the other players as my first pick on my team. He exudes leadership and risk, a quality you must have to win.
ADDED: WHAT OTHER QB WOULD PLAY AFTER THE DEATH OF HIS FATHER? BRETT DID WITH CLASS AND COMPOSURE. 'NOUGH SAID.

This really would have to depend upon your definition of tough. For simplicity's sake, I'm going to say toughness is the ability to play through pain. Favre is very tough, but I'm going to have to throw Steve McNair's hat into the ring. Favre has that incredibly impressive starting streak, but he also has been addicted to pain killers, and he hasn't seen as many injuries (which depending on your definition of tough, could justify him as being the toughest player).
McNair on the other hand is seemingly always injured, and if you look through the injuries he's faced, the amount of pain he pushed aside and kept playing through is amazing. Dislocated fingers, the sternum injury someone else mentioned, shoulder and elbow injuries (incredibly painful to throw with), ankle injuries, back injuries, concussions.... the guy has really been through it all and managed to keep playing when his team needed him. Farve is incredibly tough, but because of the relative seriousness of McNair's injuries, I will pick him above Favre.

Fave is one Tough guy. Anyone who says otherwise clearly doesn't know what they're talking about. He's never missed a game in his career, played with cuts, bruises, sprains broken bones and a broken heart and he always gives everything he has. When GB played the Giants a couple of years back he got hit hard just before half time and in the final moments of the half he ran on the field against the will of the team Docs threw a td pass to finish the half... turns out he had a concussion and they wouldn't let him play the rest of the game!
toughest? don't know but he's certainly up there

No, I would not agree that Brett Favre is the toughest. The NFL has rules now where you can barely even touch the QB. I will say Joey Porter. Eventhough I hate the Steelers his old team and I don't really care for the Dolphins his new team. He got shot at a night club and he still finished up the season. That is pretty damn tough.

itz a tough question.. haha any ways i'd say any damn offensive lineman out there. I played some football in my day and hands down o-line man down in the trenches take some mad punishment and get up to do it again. so in o-line men i'd go with the likes of either jon ogden or kevin mawae
