focus more on working out then your 40 yard dash time. there are 325lb linemen faster then you. you arent going to out run anyone so you need to be smart and tough. when was the last time you saw a 40 yard play in football? focus on the basics, get off your computer and try to become a better football player.

4.8 isn't bad at all for high school football, and unless you go to an ultra-competitive school (i.e. one that recruits people), you should fit in fine.

Whether a 4.8 40-time is good or not depends on how big you are and what position you want to play. If you're a bigger kid, then 4.8 would be a good 40 time for a defensive lineman or linebacker. To play RB or WR, you may have to improve that number (at least if you plan on getting real serious about playing).

Regardless of what position you are, you should want to play football because you like it and have fun playing it, not because you may or may not have the skills to.

A 4.8 for a freshman is a good time. As a freshman football coach I am always looking for new talent. It would not hurt to go out and play football. It is a great sport and builds lots of character. Go out and have fun and listen to your coaches they usually know what they are talking about.

Fast is good but you also need strength, agility, and it doesn't matter how fast or strong you are; you have to be able to play football...

For example, there are people out there that are stronger then players in the NFL but the reason that they're not in the NFL is because they don't have the SKILL to play.

it doesnt matter how fast you are to begin with because u will get faster during your weeks of conditioning. yeah your not very fast (for now) but that doesnt mean u cant improve

i was running a 40 in 6.3 secs(really really really slow) but near the end of the season i was one of the fastest on the team.

and if you dont want to get faster u can hit the weights and be a lineman

trust me PLAY FOOTBALL its awesome

If you seriously have to ask this question then no you shouldn't go out for football. Try the soccer team.

Anything under 5 seconds in high school is fast.

sounds great for high school. you may need to speed up if you want to play at the next level.... but you have plenty of time for that.
