Sounds like he knows how to work the system. Typical Dem... as long as the rules benefit me, things are good. Don't worry, when Hillary gets in, we'll all get some of his $80k when she 'redistributes the wealth'. We'll all just sit around on our couches and wait for our share of John Kerry's and John Edwards' estates to come in the mail.

Unemployment and Welfare are two different thing. Check your facts!
You get unemployment by working first and it is based on the amount of money your employer puts into your "Unemployment Insurance" policy while you are working. This money dries up after a period of time and you usually have to show that you are attempting to find a job. If I go on unemployment I am getting MY money back, not yours.

I know you regret using the term welfare. Oh well, deal with it cutie.
Your brothers friend is milking the system and the people paying into unemployment. It is one of many ways people abuse gov't programs. That's the problem with gov't programs. They always get abused and honest citizens pay the tab.
Liberals are for it, because they are such nice and good people. Conservatives are against it because we are cold blooded, hate mongers.
Don't you want to be a lib and be a 'caring' person Penelope?

As usual you don't know what you are talking about.
Unemployment is insurance. NOT WELFARE
The premium for this insurance is paid for by the employer. The costs for this insurance is taken into consideration when hiring the employees. If companies did not have to buy this insurance, they would be able to pay more to the employee (not that they would).
One of the requirements to claim benefits is that you are actively searching for employment.
If this person is not, he is abusing the system and should be reported.
As should all people that abuse any insurance company, for their abuse, makes our premiums climb, resulting in higher costs for the employer and therefore, lower wages for the employees.
Just like Social security and Welfare, some people abuse it, and should be prosecuted.

Unemployment compensation is not welfare.
This is a legal loophole in the UC system. However, the money isn't always great in fishing and the work is very, very dangerous.
In theory, he SHOULD get another job, but he is acting within the law.

Doesn't one pay for one's own unemployment insurance via deductions in his paychecks?
BTW, I have plenty of die-hard Conservative red neck friends who do the exact same thing, except they work in construction. During the winter, work dries up, so they hit the dole for a few months and then go back to work during the spring.

He is an abuser.
If he can make the trip to Alaska in the summer, he should be able to make the trip to Florida in the winter. I know a guy who guides in Alaska in the summer and Florida in the winter.

He is bilking the system it's not illegal but does show a sense of I'll ive on the dool when I can, don't worry the work will wear him out and if he didn't save his money he will end up poor. That type of work pays well because of the toll on the body. SO if he doesn't put many back he will not have it for later and his health as all peoples will eventaully fail.
His short terms gains without long term planning will most likely cause a long term failure.
So the point is moot.
