I was staying overnight at a friend's house after drinking when we had an arguement. She told me to get out of her house and chucked all my stuff out. Without thinking, I got in my car and drove and was caught for drink driving. I was twice over the limit. I have held a clean license for 8 years and never been arrested before. Upon arrest I mistakingly admitted that I had been drinking a lot recently and was on tablets for depression as a consequence of my mother's terminal illness. The whole experience has shocked me and I am thoroughly disgusted at what I have done. I have not touched a drink since my arrest and will definately never ever do this again. I am well aware of the minimum and maximum penalities but wondered what is most likely for me? Also I am meant to be travelling to USA on honeymoon next summer and am terrified I will not be able to obtain a visa. There is no way I am going to lie about my conviction as some people have advised... What do you think??

DUI in the United States is a misdemeanor until you accumulate enough to become a 'habitual offender' which is a separate felony. It should not affect your ability to obtain a visa unless you do lie about the conviction. If they don't ask, don't tell.

First time offender... You'll get a slap on the wrist. You be convicted of the DUI only because you blew. You never blow. Never. When you blow your chances of fighting and winning the case are extremely low. Keep your nose clean and stay out of trouble and we'll let you in the country.

People who are drinking loose control of their senses. You weren't thinking. You were drunk too. You should have slept it off in your car or call a friend to come and get you, stupid. Stop drinking, it is bad for your health.
And stay away from cop's, they are equally bad for your health. Hey! I just thought of something, why don't you stop drink period! Fat chance! Bet you can't do it!
