tell the millions and millions of people who have been killed by a gun that guns don't kill people, that is the most asinine argument I've ever heard.

Gun control laws can benefit only those who are trying to control the average citizen. That was the whole logic behind the second amendment.

First off-- I have a Concealed Carry permit, and I carry a S & W 38 police special everywhere I go.
That said--I believe the average citizen has no need for a gun,and the average citizen with a gun is a danger to himself and those around him.
Gun control does not stop crime or terrorism, it weeds out the nut cases, and allows tracability when a crime has been committed with a firearm.

Gun control CAN benefit everyone, but I see what you are saying. Who are the most adamant supporters of gun control legislation? Mothers who live in high-crime areas and see their children being gunned down in senseless gang activity. I think there is room for moderation in all things and our right to bear arms is not excluded.
Especially, you know, when the majority desires something and they fight as hard as they do to achieve it--this is the way of America. Our Founders created the Constitution to do just that, remain a living document that may be amended as the majority sees fit.
When you speak of "gun control", it is a hard question to answer because you are not being specific. What kind of gun control? Background checks and licenses before ownership? I would wager that the majority agrees with this, but not with controlling our "right to bear arms" to the extent that only a select few may have weapons.
I find it ironic that a lot of gun supporters here are rationalizing it this way: "Gun control laws are useless because people will just get them off the black-market." Well, any Google search of "gun control myths" will find numerous PRO-GUN (anti-gun control) websites that claim this black-market theory as a myth. Supposedly, a lot of gun control advocates use the exact same argument for the stricter laws! Strange.

Having gun control would benefit those trying to take control of the average citizen, as well as all the gangs who would sell guns on the black market.
Also, since guns will all be bought on the black market, the goverment will miss out on millions of taxable profit. Think of all the guns and ammo that we tax, as well as gun licenses.
Now that the government has lost millions in revenue, it will try to cover that by hiking up your taxes!! So, we would all lose.

Gun control benefits the criminal element in society.
All gun control does is keep guns away from law abiding citizens. Lets face it, criminals buy guns illegally, and since the avg citizen does not carry one, they are more likely to participate in criminal activity, but if citizens carried guns, theres more of a chance that criminals will be met with deadly force. Of course gun control laws differ in different jurisdictions.....

I believe gun control is necessary to keep guns out of the hands of people who have proven that they have a history of violent or criminal behavior. Because of this I would be considered by many on this website to be a liberal. Be that as it may, I am a proud gun owner.

The idea behind gun control is to get guns out of the hands of criminals.
However, the idea is severely flawed because criminals get their guns from other sources.
Also, gun control will not reduce crime.
