Why would Penn want to meet Chavez? Now, some might diss me, but I have been to Venezuela and I can guarantee that Chavez is 100% boring hubris; huge ego plus he is manic from drinking 20 espressos a day! My limited knowledge of mental illness and psychology tells me he is a manic-depressive and delusional (paranoid and otherwise), verging on schizophrenic. He's not stupid, he's just a mango short of a big fruit salad! I know this from watching him for days on end on the national TV channel in Venezuela. Fair enough - people voted for him, he's what they wanted, he's what they've got. Venezuela is quite a nice country and the people are really nice (with exceptions, of course). Enormously beautiful and lots of amazing things to see from the Andes to the Llanos to the Caimanos (Amazon part) and Angel Falls to some of most idyllic beaches and islands in the world. So I would recommend everybody goes - well, the adventurous types, anyway as transport infrastructure isn't all that great. But I don't think I'd want to meet Chavez if I had an engraved invitation and it's nothing to do with my politics, I think he'd just bore and/or annoy me to death.

Its funny what people decide to do when they have more money than they know what to do with. Penn is an activist type who went to New Orleans during the flood and helped in the rescue efforts. For all I know, he just wants to go there to see if what we are hearing in the news about Chavez is true. I call Penn eccentric.
I think Chavez is a dictator who fooled the people there into voting for him. He is a radical and someone who bears watching as an enemy to the U.S., at least the current administration.

I like Penn as an actor. However if he wants to shoot his career in the foot by going down to Venezuela and meeting with that idiot Chavez, that's his problem.

I think Sean Penn is an actor, and that actor's opinions should be regarded about as much as the rest of ours.
If he wants to go visit Chavez, let him. It won't change anything, as well it shouldn't.

Brian Boramha: if you dont live in Venezuela, dont speak. People here are afraid of Chavez. People loose their jobs of they dont act like they love him. I know it because I am Venezuela, and about Sean Penn....he just needs money and he came for it.

Actress Jane Fonda set the bar for Hollywood when she went to N. Vietnam during that war and sat behind an enemy anti-aircraft gun aimed at the sky, with a military helmet on, as though she were shooting down American fliers, for a staged, propaganda photo-op. She's the high priestess of the Hollywood traitor pack that so many today are trying to emulate. It's the path of washed up has-beens screaming for attention.

They probably hardly even knew who Penn was. And when he told Hugo about the obscene amount of money he has sucked out of the American people for ACTING, they probably all had a huge laugh.
He can stay there for all I care.
BTW his New England accent completely sucked in "Mystic River".
