It depends on the state, but generally, you go to the office every three months, and they will give you coupons to use on specific items. Sometimes you will get special vouchers to use for fruits and vegetables from farmer's markets. They generally don't cover all the necessary milk, etc. purchases for a month, but it does help.
Dawn Marie Rose, WIC is for WORKING families and only buys healthy foods such as milk, cheese, etc., and usually only covers the cheapest brands of these items. You should get educated before you attempt to slam other people. WIC families ARE working families that pay taxes just like you.

Where I live they give you a card and you get your benefits on the 1st of the month and they expire the last day of the month. The people at the WIC office can answer all of your questions.

Every 3 months-that when they re-evaluate you and check your blood, weight, and they way you are eating. It was a pain in the butt but it helped a lot. Afetr the baby is born you will still do the visits but it will be for the child instead of you! The checks/coupons are soley based on your income! And do not listen to the morons that say they love seeing where their tax dollars go...I pay taxes and I needed help with my first pregnancy because I was young and taking care of my responsibilities without the help of the father (jerk). I just needed help gettign on my feet which I am now and do not use assistance. I do believe that those that live on assistance like WIC and Food Stamps are a tad ridiculous!

jj.mcintosh is right. I don't know why she got a thumbs down.In my state you get a voucher once a month. You can buy cheese, eggs, milk, juice and certain kinds of cereals. It isn't a check and if you don't use it by the date-you lose it. Do we get thumbs down for right answers???? Oh well!!! I had to read some of the answer. So sad that all these women who are pregnant and working, making great money and their boyfriend doing the same don't mind bragging about it. So sense of pride at all. Bet they have medical cards too that will pay for the hospital. Don't get mad at others who feel like you are abusing the system. I see this all the time where I work. Food Stamps is the same way. The more babies you have the more food stamps you get. The system is being abused. Truth hurts.

wic checks you will get a 3 month supply of them. you go back down there every 3 months to get new ones. it depends what state you live in, but my state gives you probably about 5 checks a month. most of them repeat what is on there to get. hope this helps.
and for the person who is commenting on the welfare thing. wic is there to make sure that pregnant women get the correct stuff while pregnant. and the baby when its born I work and my babys father works and guess what i get it too. so stfu.

you will get checks that will last for 3 to 4 months than you have to go back and get more. Than when you baby is born you will have to apply for you baby. And you will only get baby milk untill the baby is 4 months old than you will get baby ceral. and when you baby is 1 year old you will get all the same stuff you got when you applied for it yourself. You will only recieve wic for yourself 3 months after your baby is born

I currently receive WIC and I go in once a month to get my "checks". And I DO work and make good money and so does my boyfriend so I don't know where certain people get off talking crap about this program. Ignore them, as they are the ignorant ones.
