Well yeah, but we got rid of Sadam, right?
Not to mention disarming the Iraqi government of it's WMD that posed a serious, immediate threat to the U.S.
Oh, wait........................................well, it was still worth it, right?

Don't forget that the sunnis and shiites had gotten along just fine all these thousands of years, until the baath party was put into power by the British and the US. Yes, we supported Saddam when he was commiting all those atrocities. We gave the baath party the red light and turned a blind eye as they began the sunni-shiite political distinction by oppressing the kurds as minority factions,
Now he US is trying to continue the devide and conquer of the two factions and it's worked to devide them, to some extent, but not to conquer them. It's very sad. We did this in Iran in 1953. We destroyed a brand new democracy with western educated leaders and an incredibly humanitarian system of government, becuase we wanted the Shah there so we could continue to exploit their oil with british Petrolium's help. Now, ALL these years later, not only have the poor Iranians paid with their freedoms under an oppressive theocracy (which we also helped put in place to thwart the soviets up north), but we're also having to deal with the results of that opportunistic intervention all those years ago.
We ruin those countries and then when they're a mess and they want revenge, we say:" why do they hate us. They must hate our freedoms." How incrediblt ignorant of people who delude themselves with this falacy. They hate us, becuase we're there hurting them and we've done it for decades.
A MUST read for any American who loves his country is a book called "All the Shah's Men" by Steven Kinzer. This is the story of our covert operations which seem brilliant in terms of money and global positioning at the time, but end up blowing in our face years later.
thanks for asking this question. We often forget that those people aren't getting into their SUV's and driving around town like nothing's the matter. We're in a war. but they'r epaying the price. They, and our innocent troops who're there fighting a made up war, with their precious lives.
To anyone who says Saddam was a tyrant... they're right, he was a blood thirsty tyrant, so why did we SUPPORT him when he was commiting his genocides? We have pictures of rumsfeld shaking his hands when all that was going on. We were the supplier of Saddam's army then. Yes, we were his allies in his most murderous days.

You're so Right!!!! Also, go to Ogrish.com and dowload some videos of Iraq before U.S. intervention. I have and all I found were videos of people bound and gagged and having their tongues cut out with razor blades and people being thrown off of 4 story roofs and men with their hands tied to boards and a hatchet being taken to their fingers. I have a video that I downloaded that shows Iraqi police dropping people feet first into huge recycling grinder machines and to hear them scream in agony as their bones are crushed and limbs mutilated just makes me sick.
Did you ever hear about Uday Heussein's schools for girls? Qulaity education for little Iraqi girls, but instead of having recess, he would pick two or three of them and take them into a room in the school which had a bed and would rape and beat them continuously. 12 years and under only.

Yes it was ancient and beautiful at one time. I've read some remarks here about pre-Saddam. Iraq was a sovereign country before it was invaded/occupied by this country and our misguided government. To me this means that if the citizens of Iraq had a problem with their leader,it was up to them to resolve it. None of our business. Yup we are the liberators.

The government in Iraq has asked us several times to leave. We pretend it doesn't happen.
Wealth has changed hands in Baghdad but the people in general are much worse off than they were.
No person of average intelligence would expect that imposing a system of government on a people without the cultural background to understand it would work.

Are you kidding... let me get this straight, you see some "pics" of Baghdad and that's how you develop your opinion? The "dead civilian" rate was much higher when Sadaam was in power, not to mention the Kurds he tried to wipe from the face of the planet. That doesn't even count the numerous Iraquis who died to inadequate health care and nutrition since Sadaam was more interested in building luxury palaces and soccer stadiums than spending money on Iraq's infrastructure. Here's a tip, get out of your bedroom with it's canopy bed and pink frills, check out the real world, and grow up.

If you look a little more closely you will see the shadow of Saddam and tyranny cast across Baghdad as well. You might also see some mass graves, some rape rooms, etc. Who was it that said "Give me liberty or give me death?" Was that Patrick Henry? Hmm...not sure.

Baghdad was such a nice place before?? Ruled by a leader responsible for tens of thousands of murders of innocent people, who terrorized his people and killed those who oppossed him, who stole his countries wealth until his people starved while he lived like a king. Bush put a stop to it and the Bush-haters have a problem with that?? They don't care about the innocent people Saddam murdered, they only care about themselves and bashing the president.

Instead of people being dragged from their homes and tortured by Saddam, they are now being blown up by Sunnis and Shias... The pictures you saw before were propaganda pictures... Who do you think built Abu Ghraib? It certainly wasn't us, we just used it. Who do you think is killing those 100,000 civilians? Once again, not us. What we did was give them a chance, no one figured that some of them would be so stupid as to resist us, but then again it's a cultural thing, they don't value life as we do...

Very very sad.
More sad when you think that our leaders try to turn everyone of us in that direction with:
"Are you with us or against us"
Like forcing you to do the same as his believes.
