I'd rather not get into a long series, so a collection of 3 or less books would be ideal. I've read Lord of the Rings, and the Death Gate novels, and some of Robert Jordan, among other things... I just really want to read something new. :)

It depends on how old you are. If your a teenager--12-14-up--this is stuff I've read.
Try The Power of Five series by Anthony Horowitz. Only five books--three are out so far and the other two should be out next year. Raven's Gate, Evil Star, and Nightrise.
The Artemis Fowl series--six books. It can get a little complicated, lots of science in there.
The Divide Trilogy--three books, hence the Trilogy Part.
Harry Potter, of course--seven books.
Leven thumps--two books so far.

I love to read fantasy/fiction. Tamora Pierce is AMAZING!! She writes books in a series of 4 - 2. I have read almost every book she's written. She writes fantasy books. I'll give you some of the series. If you deiced to read them read them in the order i give them.
First The Song of the Lioness quartet. I TOTALLY recommend it. It is AMAZING!!! Probably one of the best series i've read!!!
The Immortals quartet. Again i STRONGLY recommend it.
Another is The Protector of the Small quartet. That's good too.
Also Trickster's Choice and the second book Trickster's Queen. There's only 2 books.
Another is Beka Cooper: A Tortall Legend. There is only 1 book out right now but there are going to be 2 more. So it's a trilogy.
I love them all! Happy Reading!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

The Traveler and The Dark River by John Twelve Hawks. It's sort of like a futuristic "1984". There are plans for 3 books. The first two are available.

The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud is very good. There are magicians, demons, and it takes places seemingly modern day.
Another trilogy is the Inheritance Trilogy by Christopher Poalini. You have probably heard of them. Eragon and Eldest are the first two books in the series. It has dragons, magic, wars, etc.
Stephen King's Eyes of the Dragon is also pretty good.
There is a huge series called Dragonlance by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. Even though the whole thing is huge, it is divided up into trilogies. They are very good. I would suggest starting with the Dragonlance Chronicles.

Magic Kingdom for Sale - SOLD! - by Terry Brooks was pretty good.
If You consider lighter Sci-Fi a part of fantasy try "Phule's Company " and "Phule Me Twice" (pronounced fool). Part of a longer series, but each stand on it's own and these are the best two.
OR the Dragonriders of Pern series (I think it stopped at like 5).
