Actually, the Republican Party was the Majority in both the House and the Senate in 2003 so this is a REPUBLICAN WAR. Sure, there were Democrats who voted in favor of the war, but look at the politics of the time. It was only two years after 9/11 and the House and Senate were being fed misinformation by the Bush Administration. "If you're not with us than you're against us." Question the government? Their policies? The PATRIOT Act? You're unpatriotic and a "terrorist sympathizer." Both the Congress and the Executive Branch oversee the Central Intelligence Agency’s activities. In addition, the CIA is responsible to the American people through their elected representatives, and, like other government agencies, acts in accordance with US laws and executive orders. In the Executive Branch, the National Security Council—including the President, the Vice President, the Secretary of State, and the Secretary of Defense—provides guidance and direction for national foreign intelligence and counterintelligence activities. In Congress, the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, as well as other committees, closely monitor the Agency’s reporting and programs. The CIA is not a policy-making organization; it advises policymakers on matters of foreign intelligence, and it conducts covert actions only at the direction of the President. Former CIA director Stansfield Turner accused the Bush administration Tuesday of "overstretching the facts" about Iraqi weapons of mass destruction in making its case for invading that country.
No one wants for us to lose the war in Iraq. I think that what the majority of Americans want now is a plan to win peace within Iraq, to end our occupation of Iraq and to see our troops brought home.

They want the war to end because of some of their own personal and political beliefs, but mainly to appease their most liberal constituants from whom they recieve the most support. They ARE NOT looking out for anyone's best interest beyond their own political standing.
Democrats do however understand the repercussions of a withdrawl and what it would mean to hand victory to enemies who have killed and will continue to kill Americans (yes, we are fighting the taliban in Iraq. Most everyone we are fighting in iraq are islamic fundamentalists anyway and must be destroyed). Democrats want the war to end NOW because they are hopng that the genocide which will take place in Iraq and the rise of power of Islamic Fundamentalist after we leave the region will be blamed on President Bush and the Republican Party. It doesn't matter that they called for the pullout, just like it doesn't matter now that they voted to go to war in the first place. They will manipulate the media and thus manipulate history to portray this situation as all being facilitated by Republicans.
Now the reason you ask? Short term political points with the misinformed and unfortunately sometimes ignorant American public.

Leaving a country alone that has been fighting for thousands of years. What makes the reps., think that they are going to change things. It's useless, we need to worry about our own country and it's people. And quit letting in every Tom, Dick and Harry into our country. Shut the gates and kick a couple of million out and that should do the trick for some. But, nothing is going to come out of this war, but putting money in deep pockets already. Money makes the world go round, and stupidity makes us all look bad. I say, "let Al in and see what happens.

Its not about Iraq. This is about attacking the republicans, and surrendering in Iraq would make it look like they defeated the Republicans at home.
The lives of our soldiers mean nothing to them, as long as they get to "beat" the Republicans.

No one gains from losing in Iraq.. the problem is that nobody is gaining from staying either. It's just propaganda coming from the extreme right that says the Democrats 'need' us to lose to win. Be smarter than that people.. we are Americans first.. same as you. We all want America to be the best it can.. we just have different views on how to get there.

That is just a talking point, and a weak one at that....Democrats will win the next election regardless of what happens in Iraq...people are tired of the war and will not risk getting us into another one.

It's easier to lose than to push ahead through the ugliness of war and realize victory.
But what they stand to gain is power. Period.
By playing up the war as a Republican boondoggle, they can try to position themselves as anti-war. And once they're in power, they can push their agenda of government dependency.

They don't care about losing. They are used to it but it's a political thing. For them it's a sign that Bush lost and it's a typical move on their part.

It's good political leverage for them if we lose as Bush was President when we went in and directed the effort. All most of the Democrats care about is political power.
