Try the "Stephanie Plum" books from Janet Evanovitch. Good beach reading.

One for the Money
Two for the Dough
Three to Get Deadly

This is difficult to answer without having at least some idea of what you like. This is good http://www.interleaves.org/~rteeter/grtother.html#great , especially the Harvard Classics list. Almost all of the classics are classics for one reason - they are really good, even those from a genre that you wouldn't normally enjoy. The only difficulty is choosing one that isn't *too* difficult. Fortunately, almost all of these are available free online, so you can read a chapter and decide if it's the book you want.

I find Jennifer Cruise books to be extremely entertaining. They are funny ( i actually laugh out loud ) and not over the top romantic. I hate mushy stories. They are fast paced. I never get bored reading them and I always wish they were longer. I also like Jodi Piccoult. Her books are very touching. Tess Geritson writes some good medical thrillers and Nicholas Sparks books are fantastic as well. I love to read... can you tell??? :)
