I am starting my own business and i am wondering if any one knows if being ¨bonded¨and obtaining a ¨criminal check¨is the same?

Yes...to be "bonded" you must have a criminal background check...I had to do this myself many years ago to be able to work for a security systems company...I had to go "downtown" to be finger printed and have my background checked...before I could be considered "bonded"....this is an added level of security for your customers if you are in a business that handles or has access to, confidential information, keys or access to peoples homes, businesses or other sensitive or medical information.

No. Being bonded means you have purchased a surety bond. You and/or employees can than handle other people's money or valuables. The bonding company then has to pay any claims if someone does not get his property back.
Criminal check just means a background investigation is done to see if someone has a criminal record.

They are not the same.

A background check is just that - a background check. A bond is an insurance policy that compensates your customers/employer if you steal from them.
