I would be appalled. But I like helping people too much for anyone to think I'm a republican.
By the way, I am a democrat BECAUSE I am a Christan. It doesn't make sense to be a Christan and a Republican.
Also, the government's job is supposed to be to serve you, so I do not understand why it's so bad to have them help you. That's what it is there for. Duh. Try taking a political science class, and understanding what's being said.

No, what embarrasses ME is that the Christian Right and the Corporations have hijacked the REPUBLICAN Party.
I registered as a Republican on my 18th B-day in 1982... and proudly voted for Reagan in 1984. I joined the Navy in 1985 and served for just shy of 15 years. I then went into telecommunications as an engineer while finishing my teaching credential...
I taught for one year before being driven out by the militant leftists in the California School System... I started each homeroom period with the Pledge of Allegiance, only to find that that "infringed upon the rights of students and teachers" in the Great Estate of California.
It's hard to mistake ME for a liberal... I am straight, I cut my hair and clean my clothes, and go to synagogue. I remain a Republican, a Veteran (VFW, American Legion, and DAV)... as well as an environmentalist... yep, I drive a small car, and actually commute on the train 90% of the time. I recycle religiously, I believe in global-warming, and with my garden I have a lower carbon footprint than MOST screaming liberals.
What embarrasses ME is the corruption of ALL in Washington DC... and honestly, the extremes of BOTH of the primary parties. I now support candidates from the Libertarian, Green, Republican parties... I support intelligence, action, a lack of BS, and honesty. I despise lies (Clinton AND Libby), and support criminal punishment (Cunningham and Peterson).
Bring back the Electric Chair, the Stocks, and Adultry as a crime.

There's no mistake here that I am proud to be and have good Republican values.
1. I am independent
2. I am educated
3. I paid my own way through college
4. I believe in individual freedom
5. I do not believe in socialism
6. I certainly do not believe in big government
7. I worked hard to achieve success
I guess that makes me a Republican. I have strong moral
values, I have never had an abortion, and I believe in
Christianity

I don't want to be associated with any political party. I've never had the need to fit in or belong to a clique, and I never will. There's too many things about democrats and republicans that I hate, they all lie. The democrats are spineless, lying cowards, and the republicans are smart when it comes to running a campaign (if only they ran the country the same way), but they are all self-serving crooks.

It happens from time to time, because I am a Christian man and fiscally conservative. I correct them and tell them I was a conservative early in my life when I believed that business was the most important thing in life. I no longer have those foolish beliefs and believe in Christian principals of governing. Abortion is the only issue that the conservatives have that appeal to the Christians. Isn't it wonderful have they have abolished abortion. They only give the Christians lip service, a six year old could figure that out that they do not do as they say they will do.

I used to be moderate and bipartisan until the republicans became mutants and then I became embarrased to be associated with any of their doctrines.
God save us from what the republicans have sewn. We need to apologize to the world when we elect our new president. We must show that we, the people, were not represented in the past 8 years, and that we shouldn't pay for the sins of our servants.

We'll have to look at this objectively.
According to exit polls, Republican voters tend to be more educated and more successful at their jobs. They also tend to say they're "happy" more often than Democrats/liberals.
Further by saying you're a Republican, they're also saying you're not a Democrat/liberal. Democrats/liberal voters are more than 3 times as likely to have been convicted of felonies.
So, by calling you a Republican, they're saying that you look like a well educated, successful, law abiding person who is happy in life. Not particularly insulting.
However, if they called you a Democrat/liberal... They’re saying you look like an unhappy, poorly educated loser who would kill your own mother for a buck. That is a bit more insulting, don't you think?

I have noticed a large number of Republicans are somewhat cloistered into social groups and practicing 'groupthink'. Because they only get feedback from like-minded individuals, they fail to even consider the possibility that co-workers, fellow church members, and neighbors could be Democrats.
This leads to those oafs who think Democrats are some bunch of unemployed welfare recipients somewhere...
The embarrassment should not be yours.
Other than that, there are a lot of people who don't know one party from the other...so no, I wouldn't be embarassed.

I carry a gun for just such occasions! I think, therefore am not republican. Great question. It shows intellect and thought. (Just sucking up for 10 points. Did I mention I could use the points?)
