Because im thinking about upgrading my internet to 3.0/5.0 mbps as they offered on their webpage.

any suggestions if i should get 3.0 or 5.0?
is it going to make much more difference if i get one of those?
and what is the default "mbps" for first purchase of charter internet?

and im also running a half-life server, which needs much internet speed. is upgrading the system/internet would make it a lot faster?
Thank you, please reply ASAP

I upgraded some time ago and I continually see 4.5-4.8Mb downloads the slowest measurement was 4.2 from the wireless WPA which should be slower due to the overhead.

Is it worth it? $10 for 2 additional megs of speed? Seems like it to me you also have higher UPLOAD speed which with your server is more important than download! However, I don't think charter allows any servers on home lines, you may want to check that. Hate to see you in violation of some rule.

I live in San Francisco, using comcast. I get 10 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload. It's the upload speed that counts.

Since its Cable Service, I wouldn't upgrade it. Because its a shared medium (meaning all of your neighbors can steal your bandwidth), I wouldn't pay the extra for it. At times, it will be faster but when people are downloading movies, music, etc, you'll see the same slowdowns as you see right now.

3.0 is standard by me. It is fast, but it never actually runs as fast as they claim. Since you run a server you may want to upgrade.
