no its not. I am 16 weeks and 4 days and I have had about 6 ultrasounds. They will not do anything that is harmful to the baby. Now x-rays and mri's and stuff like that is. An ultrasound is different.

It has not been proven that ultrasounds are completely unharmful. And no, they are not completely necessary. If there are any complications going on, then yes it is helpful. But studies show that, in regards to fetal outcome, that having ultrasounds does not prove a greater outcome. If the Dr wants her to have an ultrasound because he thinks something is wrong, then I would agree to one. But if he doesn't think there is anything wrong, then I would wave the ultrasound.

There is no concrete proof that ultrasound is harmful, neither is there any proof that it is safe. I have had four pregnancies and I never had ultrasound, including doptone. It is not necessary unless the doctor strongly suspects that something is wrong. We still don't know for certain what has caused the great increase in autism.

Ultrasound is not harmful..its sound waves that create a picture of the baby. Doctors recommend they be done to make sure the baby is ok.

No.

Ultrasound is not harmful, especially when a doctor or trained technician does it. The controversy arises when people who are not trained do ultrasounds. There is no evidence even this is harmful, but the problem is, they just don't know. For instance, you can get 3D ultrasounds done just for the fun of it, but usually the people who perform these have just read the manual and haven't actually been trained in how to perform an ultrasound safely.

If a doctor is doing it, don't worry. It is good you are researching for the health of your baby.

There is no proof that an ultrasound does any harm to the baby.

The reason they are so commonly used is... while they don't fully know if there is damage caused by a scan, they *DO* know that they find and prevent more damage than they seem to cause.

Better to have one done and make sure the baby is well.

Well, first of all, yes, an ultrasound is necessary because you need to be able to check on the baby every once in a while to see if it is healthy and to see what you are having.
No, it will not hurt your baby in any way.

I would question too many ultrasounds with the doctor. Most people have one or two to make sure the organs are growing correctly. Woman who are at high risk have more.

The ultrasounds are to make sure everything is ok with the baby, and they don't hurt the baby at all.
