Is it me or has reality television got really rubbish?

I was addictied to reality TV and would watch everything for Big Brother to The Salon. All of a sudden I have gone off it. It does not seem to interest me any more. Has this happened to anyone else?

Not it has not become rubbish, it always has been. You are just maturing your taste that's all. It is a pathetic medium whereby the producers make incredibly easy TV, with no real thought or talent required by them. They then sell it for millions and laugh all the way to the bank. Let's put it into persepctive - can anything that produces people like Jade Goody as a public figure be any good to anyone?

Well done you have seen the light and realise that there are much better things to watch on the box and do with your life - hopefully well away from the TV altogether.

Yeah, i was initially addicted to them the very first couple of series of big brother and the salon, but i've just totally gone off them now.
Big brother just gets boring now because they're always doing the same things everyday. Its just like watching a bunch of retards go into a house who go on the show to get recognised, even if they say they just want to have fun and play the game - they just come out as cheap celebrities who are forgotten the next week. At least in the salon they're actually doing something like cutting hair.

I think the premise was rubbish from the start - but entertaining. But many have pointed out the idea that anything on TV, especially with celebrities, can't be much of anyone's idea of "reality" from the get go.

Many of the ideas are very similar - you probably liked them at first, but have gotten less interest, since the basic premises (normal people in unusual circumstances; celebrities in normal circumstances) just don't catch your eye anymore.

In a sense - it's growing to be a "tired" format.

Yeah. That is normal. People change and so as their likes and tastes. So as me. At first I hate Big Brother here in the Philippines. It sucks. But the last season entertained me. Another one is the Starstruck(Actor search), at first it was a boom but now, it didn't sell so high. It depends on how you expect things and its advantages to you. Now, I'm watching Americas Next Top Model 7, QTV reality shows, and waiting for next season of American Idol. By the way I'm from the Philippines. Pls subscribe in PINOY TV. Not TFC. TFC sucks.

I think reality TV has become a parody of itself. Ive never been into it, but my GF loves it. I've wacthed a few with her, and honestly, they are pretty much the same. just different scenery and terminology. The format for most of them is almost exactly the same. At the begining, at least it was a fairly new concept, now the shows are just copoes of copies.

Yeah, some of them are just getting a little old. It's just worse during the summer because its cheaper to put on a reality show than to make a new sitcom or drama.

No its not you. reality TV is rubbish and always has been. It's TV's equivalent of "Gutter Press" in the news paper world.

Was it ever really any good? If you want reality tv watch Planet Earth, Everyman or Child of our Times. Not some bunch of numpties doing a circus act for bananas (ook ook!!)
