I discovered what the problem is with my toilet. After you flush, the tank doesnt refill with water, so you cant flush again unless you fill it by hand. Anyone know how to fix this? Or do i need a plumber?

you need what is called a fill valve. you can get them at home depot or any hardware store, all you do is turn off the water at the angle stop, unscrew the nut under the toilet tank, remove the old valve. install the new one and turn on the water.

The flush valve is the part with the flapper and overflow tube in the middle of the tank. The fill valve is the part that attaches to the water supply line and has some sort of float that rises and falls as the water fills the tank and empties during a flush.

If water won't come into the tank to refill it then you probably have a problem with the fill valve.

The fill valve probably has mineral deposits plugging it up and should be replaced. If it's an older fill valve then you might be able to replace the seals and clean it up, but since you can buy new ones for under $10 then it's probably not worth messing with the old one.

While you are at it you you should go ahead and replace the flapper too. You can replace the fill valve and flapper without removing the tank from the toilet bowl.

However, if the plastic seat on the flush valve is rough then replace the flush valve too. Fill valve and flush valve kits are only about $15. You will need to unbolt the tank from the toilet bowl to replace the flush valve.

Instructions come with the repair kits or are readily available online.

Go to a Home Center or hardware and buy a Fluidmaster 400A fill-valve. Really great instructions for installing and can be done easily. Less than $10.

great answers, but double check that the water is on. It's behind the toilet, and should be counter-clockwise to open.
