If it's Linux, Mac or Windows Vista, you will have to wipe out and reinstall everything because the security levels do not have any room for forgiveness.

In Windows XP, try tapping F8 repearedly as soon as you turn the PC on, use the arrow keys to go to safe mode. Press enter twice. Click on administrator (or type "administrator" in the login box if you use that, possibly with a capital A). Once you log in, go to control panel and user accounts.

If administrator doesn't work, you can use this trick: http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/pub0009/LPMArticle.asp?ID=305

If you use Win 95/98/ME, just click "cancel" at startup.

First off, you didn't specify the operating system, so I will say Windows XP. If that is the case, turn off the computer then turn it on, as soon as you turn on the computer, tap the F8 key every second. When you see the advanced boot menu, choose safe mode with up and down arrow keys on keyboard, hit twice, will see a lot of lines saying multi(0),disk(0) don't worry, nothing is broken. It will soon load up and if you see an Administrator account click on it, if it lets you in, click on the Yes button. Then go to control panel, user accounts. Click on your user account and change password. Then restart computer and load into your account. If the Administrator account has a password as well and you cannot log into your computer with ANY account, you may want to talk to tech shop at that time.

did you buy your computer from a store with windows already installed or did you install windows yourself?

if you installed windows youself then restart your computer and then at the logon screen hit CTRL+ALT+DELETE once and then do it again
a window should popup asking you for you user and id

sign in with the username Administrator and the password you used when installing windows

now lets face it...no one really forgets their password unless they havnt used the computer in a very long time
so if all you need is your files then take the hard drive out of you computer and hook it up to another computer and get the information that way

edit: after logging on as an administrator go into user accound and remove the password from your accound

edit: this will not work in windows vista as microsoft has removed some of the functionality that was in windows xp...if this is the case try booting into safe mode

if you are part of a business of some1 else owns/set up your computer ask them for help because they might have the administrator password

If you have forgotten your Administrative password then no way out. If this is not the case, then try these...

When PC boot press F8, then select Boot in Safe mode, when menu appear....

If you are luck you will see, administrative login.... and you log with another account if you know the password of that account.

It's rather extreme, but if you have the OS install disks, you can reinitialize the computer to factory condition, and it will move all stored files on the machine to a single folder on your primary hard drive. To do this, turn your machine on, and press F8 at the startup screen, and select boot from disc. (with the OS disc in the drive of course)
There is another way however it is NOT RECOMMENDED. You have to enter the machines bios to access the settings enabling logon. If you do not know what you are doing, nasty things can happen! (Even worse than just forgetting your password, take my word for it.)
Sorry for not being more help to you, but that's all i can offer as a solution.

If you are using Windows XP try this:

1. Boot the system using safemode.
2. Go into control panel.
3. Go into user accounts.
4. Pick a user who is an administrator and click on their icon.
5. Click on remove password.
6. Reboot the system in normal mode.
7. Click on the icon of the user who you removed the password.
