That's a cool idea! They should decorate their spaceships so that they won't all look the same.

As many people have pointed out, paint would add to the weight and cost of the space ship. Plus, it would have to be a special kind of expensive paint...otherwise it would come off when it was heated up by reentry into the atmosphere. Also, tropical flowers are so girly...racing stripes would be cooler. Serious science, like rocketry, should never look girly. :D

The only problem with flowery and likewise designs is that it tends to exclude the more masculine members of society, which, at the moment, still comprise a majority of those involved with space flight. Also keep in mind that most space agencies are government run, which require things to be as bland and inoffensive as possible.
Private spacecraft, however, may lend itself better to more personalized designs. And while the current paint scheme serves other purposes besides the aesthetic, there is no telling that a variety of colors can not be developed to meet the same goals.

That would be cute! :o) The only problem is that the shuttle needs to have a special kind of paint which doesn't come in different colors. The solid colors also help defects and damage to show up easier on the surface.
I think it would've been fun to paint a giant UFO head on the surface! :o)

basically thinking in case you have a clue what that could actual fee? Paints for the plane in many circumstances, and the area shuttle are very intense priced. they could additionally ought to strengthen new paints to apply. you would be speaking approximately probable waisting hundreds of thousands of taxpayer money for a completely un-necessary and frivolous ingredient. i could particularly see those hundreds of thousands of greenbacks spent planting flowers right here in the international, the place i could also have a gamble to verify them, savour them, and for them to actual benifit nature and our environment. ~Garnet Homesteading/Farming twenty years

Sure, why not? The space program is a huge waste of money anyway, trying to find things they're never going to find.
I think the money they waste on space exploration could better be spent helping the needy, or saving the environment, something worthwhile anyway.

No, Paint adds weight to the object being painted. Have you ever noticed how much a single gallon of paint weighs? It costs a great deal of money for the fuel to launch every ounce into orbit. More useful payload is preferable to aesthetic considerations.

no, i don't.
To paint something that size with "pretty little colors" for you, would add over 1,000 lbs. of weight to the spacecraft. In otherwords, it would cost more to paint it, cost more in fuel to lift the extra weight, plus extra costs in maintenance....all because you wanted pretty little flowers on it.

Not only should that be done, but I think a mural that includes a "Where's Waldo" amongst the flowers should be added =)
