Thanks everyone! marshmallow he left cos he feared for our own safety he was really violent. babyeegirl, i know exactly how u feel, i get like that too n start wondering what it would be like with a dad. We hear so much good about him from other people. I wish i got to see it too. I'll cherish those for now....thanks again all, and for those of you who have lost their fathers, hope life gets easier for u all....

It does make sense, all of it! He's your dad for God's sake, and whatever he has done, we always feel this caring and loving feeling for our parents! He may have done bad things, and stuff like that; but he was your DAD! He elft 6 years ago really, and you may miss him. I was thinking maybe you could get in touch with him, before he dies, because that'll be a little to late! Would you please like to elaborate on why your dad left? How he hurt you? So I can give you more advice on this?
Don't worry, you're feeling what any other person would feel. Its normal, and you should never HATE your dad. You're a good person
Good luck and tell us how it goes in the near future won't you?
Best Wishes
How old are you by the way?

I never actually got to live with my Dad until I was 21, and then it was for a few short months. We were raised by another guy, (uncle Ernest) who, though he was cruel psychologically and physically, brought us up the best he knew how and I was there to hold him in my arms when he died of cancer, coughing blood. Though he was cruel, his death wasn't met with a sense of relief, instead I said "Thankyou"...for being a dad as best he could.
My real dad died without me telling him I loved him. I was young and thought it soppy I guess, though now.....I regret it deeply.
"Real Dad" or not, most of them do what they can, to the best of their ability, so cherish them while you have the chance, I say.
Tempers may be short, but so is Life.

mine died 16 years ago this month, to be honest he wasn't that great to me, never physically abused me, just verbal, always compared me to others, told be I'm not good enough, gave me a massive inferiority complex, things like that, but in the long run it all made me a stronger person and very self reliant. and yes i miss him sometimes, but mostly no.
good luck chick

Best wishes to you. I suggest you be the "Dad" to yourself and rest of family where you can be... exhibiting the qualities of the good Dad you wish you'd had to help out yourself and your family.
