Do you think that he should just be released by now? can somebody tell him to give up? the injury has killed him, and hes got nothing left, he tries to throw one or two real pitches and hes injured again...time for a release? who would even take him?

I can't see them releasing him - they'd still end up paying his salary. My thought is that you give him a couple opportunities this season to see what he's got first. A friend of mine who is a pretty knowledgeable baseball fan saw him pitch in Peoria while he was on rehab, and said he looked pretty good. As much as the bullpen has been used lately, what with Cubs starters struggling to go deep into games, Kerry Wood, even at 80% of his former self, might just be the best option out there. I would think that probably Piniella will give him a chance first to throw in a situation that isn't real important - either the Cubs will have a big lead or he'll pitch some mop-up if their getting beat badly. If he looks good, it's another arm for an over used bullpen. If he looks bad, you really haven't lost anything. Wood will probably never come close to being the pitcher he once was, but I think he can be at least a serviceable relief pitcher.

I am another one that believes Kerry Wood, and you can throw Prior in there as well, is done. The Cubs will still have some contractual obligations to Wood even if they release him but I would be very surprised if Wood will ever return to anything close to what he once was. It will be interesting to see with the Cubs do with him.

I think if this comeback results in another injury, it's time to say goodbye. The Cubs have been so unlucky. If they had the real Wood and Prior they would be up by 10+ games by now in that weak division.

sounds like Jim Hendry grew to become into clever to allow timber finally bypass. final season would have been a fluke for Kerry. From his costs, timber seems to assume and settle for the religion of injuries - like a self-gratifying prophesy. that's what the Cubs and their followers had experienced for too some years. He looks to prefer an ideas-set adjustment besides. prefer the main suitable to Kerry - yet issues have not replaced with a metamorphosis of uniforms. he will probable carry on long adequate to make an encore visual allure at Wrigley while the Indians play the Cubs in inter-league play.

His last minor rehab appearances have shown he has his 94 mph fastball back. He has been able to locate the fastball and his slider. Teams have been throwing 5 mil plus at similar relievers. If Wood can be half of what he was, he's worth the risk.

The Cubs are activating Woods today. Let's see what he has. He looked good in his rehab assignments. He will start off as a 6th/7th inning reliever.

I agree. I remember when him and Prior were considered the two top pitchers if only they could stay healthy, and then they would've had Zambrano on top of that, they would be amazing. But I think that Wood has lost it.

He needs to have surgery done, and just take the whole year off. Alot of pitchers in boston have had bad injurys, but they get what they need to get done done, and then they don't rush back. They take their sweet time, and when they come back, they are actually productive.
