Back in the Viet 'Nam days, socialists learned a lesson they will never forget. As a result, every socialist propaganda machine, instructs liberal lemmings to NOT disparage the troops; spitting on and disrespecting the returning soldiers from Viet Nam, created a schism that exposed liberals as people out of touch with reality and part of the problem. That wound hurt them deeper than they will ever admit.

Socialists say they support soldiers but they don't. They don't respect what the soldiers are fighting for, they don't respect the flag or Amercian ideals, which includes, capitalism, their primary issue.

Liberals see soldiers as a means to exploit, just like they do with poor, needy & minority people; to portray the USA as sending poor people to fight rich people's wars, tools of the capitalists, etc.

Socialists don't value freedom or the cost it takes. Social change is more important to them, yet they don't understand all this "warm & fuzzy" scoialism turns into Stalinism and Castroism. Libs want it both ways, they want to oppose defending the USA without admitting they care nothing about the troops. The troops know the truth, that's why they vote against socialists....... that's why Clinton moved the polls off military bases, when he was liberal, in chief.

They deserver and receive the respect. However, some people do not appreciate it. It's not because they dispise the ones fighting the war... it's because they dispise who's NOT fighting it. Senators all over the country will balk at the notion of sending their child to fight a BS war oversees. The day that the children of our elected officials set an example is the day people will respect more overall.

They most certainly do deserve respect. They are not over there by choice. Back here in the States, you have people like Fred Phelps protesting funerals every time one of our soldiers dies over there, and what Phelps and many others like him don't realize is this: These soldiers died for his freedom, so he can do his bullshit protests. I think that entitles our troops to the maximum amount of respect humanly possible.

Another thing: People can say what they want about some (yes I said only SOME) American troops abusing the Iraqis. I don't let a few bad apples spoil the bunch.

I agree with you nobody should be disrespected except the people who sent them to war themselves and made them believe that the Iraqis and Afghans were connected to terror in the US, come on every tom, dick and harry should know that our troops are only there for economic reasons because that's what it boils down to, we all love our country but our leaders are definitely no angles, does D.Cheney ring a bell? In the midst of all of this Clusterfuck of a political situation, sometimes people get confused, hence they start being nasty to "Our" troops, but are they really "Our" troops, i surely did not have any say on whether they should fight that war or not, look what the Brits did to Tony Blair for sticking his middle finger up to the people of Britain on the war issue. Respect comes when a person understands their role in the shaping of world affairs, even when its a tiny minute role, we love America but without the rest of world it would not survive, that why we should respect others and deal with them humanely as well as respect our troops.

It would be very nice if what you said was true. Unfortunately, it's not. American men and women are fighting for the oil and natural gas companies. If you plot on the map of the world where the bulk of America's servicepeople are stationed, and then plot on top of it where the oil and natural gas pipelines are, you'll find that, with few exceptions, they follow the same paths.

I must admit, I don't hear anyone disrespecting our troops...except for those in the White House and Congress who send them out there in the first place, knowing what they know.

Some do this because they do not agree with the war. What they do not understand is that those people fighting for our freedom and safety are just doing their jobs. If we have a problem with the war we should not take it out on them. We should thank them for doing what they can to help us. They need to be respected not criticized.

People have a hard time differentiating between the people doing the fighting and the people who sent them to fight. Regardless of how one feels about the war, soldiers are doing a job for us and doing it to the best of their abilities. Disrespect the lawmakers, not the soldiers.

We respect the cause people are fighting for. A country is not enough for respect. Just imagine, should we respect Kol Pot fighters "fighting for their country"?, What about Taliban? An we can continue the list.

i think people disrespect them because the war is ridiculous and some people dont respect people who support that - i personally dont support the war at all but i do support the troops because i cant imagine how hard it is for the families of the soldiers to deal with everything going on
