am i spotting?

i thought my period was here, but now i think maybe i'm just spotting. It doesn't look like my normal period looks and it isn't as heavy as usual.. how much blood would there be if i was spotting, and why would i be spotting?

With spotting the amount of blood is very light. It can be pinkish in color, sometimes brown, and also red like new blood.

Spotting can occur to let one know their period is on the way, stress, or infection.

I've had spotting occur because of infection and stress. Also, if one has just had their pap smear done spotting can occur for a couple days because of irritation that is caused by the brush used to take the cells from the cervix to send off to the lab for analysis.
