FACT CHECK: Brett Favre is arguably one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game. Last season the Packers finished 8-8, and let's not forget that in their last game of the season they beat the Chicago Bears IN CHICAGO! Last year Favre thew for more yards than Tom Brady, and thew more touchdowns than McNabb, McNair, Hassleback, and Vince Young! And oh by the way........he's not being paid over $17 million a year to play, flipping off fans, getting caught with bong water at the airport, or being under federal investigation for animal cruelty & dog fighting!

His legend is pretty much set; when some one looks back at his career they are going to look back at the mid-1990's when the Packers were winning just about everything. Plus when it is all said and done he will probably have a couple of records with his name on them. Yes it doesn't look all that good for Brett Favre when he is playing this far past his prime; but he is still Brett Favre and even though he might have lost some zip on his throws. But when you watch him play he still has the fire and passion that he did when the Packers were winning Super Bowls. If No. 4 still wants to play let him play.

You have to remember that ALL football players have the mentality that they can and want to play the game forever. Aging players like Favre will not retire until the NFL shows him the door. Just take Emmitt Smith as a fairly recent example. It is very difficult to retire for many because they played the game since they were grade-schoolers.
This is not a knock on Favre. This is a general answer as to why Favre and other veterans that you sense should retire but keeps on playing.

He wants the records but not only that. He really loves this game.Football is his life. He plays for his father who died in 03 and now he is also playing for his step father who just died. I think he is adding to his legend because this year he will break 3 records (wins, TDs, Yards) and by playing so long he shows that he enjoys and lovess the game of football.

He wants one last chance to hit the playoffs. We were one Giants loss away of making it as a wildcard. Brett says he isnt coming back for the records, but they will get broken any way. It's not about money, stats, just wanting to win, the athletes desire. We can take the division easily.

His legend is already set in stone, no amount of current flaws could take away from that. The guy just really loves the game, and as long as he can continue to be productive, than he'll stay.

He has an ego issue and wants the records. He figures he is too close to just walk away rather then take them. He figures everyone sees him as a bum now BUT when he gets the record everyone will forget in a few years. That and he doesn't really how bad he really is.

The money's too good. If somebody would pay you several million dollars a year, wouldn't you hang around as long as you possibly could?
