I think its a mixture of both how your brought up and what you see in the world.
At the same time i feel this depth is only a perception people want people to have of them or its just something that they come across as.
Depth, comes from knowledge and understanding. There are people who appear to know it all but are talking nonsense.
You are i think as deep as you want yourself to be, isnt that cool!!

i disagree that its not something you learn. I think life is the best practice of deep thinking. As we grow up as kids we strive to gather information about our surroundings, as teenagers we try to find who we are and into our adulthood we try to pass on our wisdom and deal with new situations in life. Everyday we think about what an action will lead to and how others feel. I think its lifestyle and personal choice too, some people are just better at noticing the little things. Maybe we are born with it programed or just find our own way, its the whole nature vs nurture debate really, depends on your view.

Being able to look at situations from more than one perspective is quite formidable and amiable. We all have the ability, so yes I guess people are born with this "gift". How often have we done something and then wondered.."what if I ...?"
Deep thinkers would inlcude "what if you...what if they..how about this...? and so on. Add more than a dash of philospical preferences and ""Hey Presto !""
Having these thoughts prior to taking action is acquired over life's long journey. Some people are content to keep going round and round in circles, finding themselves in identical situations again and again and getting nowhere fast.
Taking the logical approach may throw light on unexpected hurdles, barriers to cross and thus we are forearmed and able to almost "predict" an outcome and eliminate less creditable actions.

iv always been deep. i just keep all my feelings inside.
i think what you need ot ask is, Is it nature or nurture?
i feel that i am like thins because when i was disciplined when i was younger and cried i was told that if i cried my dad would give me something to cry about like a smack or whatever so i didnt cry.
ever since i have lived thinking that way and althought my dad only said that a couple of times when i was little, it has stayed with me. i am 19 now and still feel the same.
i am constantly thinking about everything i do, consequences etc because of the way that i was brought up, however, me and my dad are the same because he is deep as well, whereas my mother is very open about her feelings. it's a mixture of nature and nurture or so i believe.

It's much better than being vapid and shallow.
Too many people these days only live for the crumbs dropped from the tables of celebrities.
If everyone is different, and they are, then there is no shame in wanting to be unique. If that means putting more thought into everything to maintain a flair and originality, then so be it.
Tragedy is that some people are better thinkers than others, and the rest get uppity about it!

Adverse and positive experiences. Life in general, through trials-sucesses and fails. Personality is a great factor, whether or not you are an introvert/extrovert and so on. It is the good old nature/nurture debate that we learn to philosophise on.

They muddy the waters to make them seem deep.
Deep as in, I philosophize or I think on the causes to the condition, or deep as in touching on an emotional or spiritual level?
Depth is just searching a little further.

Hmm...Nope people are not born that way. It is something you definitely learn. Life's Lesson and Experiences definitely makes you a deeper thinker.
If not I would have to say you are a complete Dumb ***...Not you per se but people in general.

You will not get any sort of emotional and intellectual depth studying psychology. That is a refuge for the intellectually inpoverished and emotionally unstable, Avoid, deep thoughts are not found there.
