good question small.
Mother, father, teacher...they all give us love, knowledge and inspiration, which cannot be repaid. so "owing" would not be fair. i don't think we owe anything to them, which we have pay back. As a child of those wonderful parents, one should never cease to love them, one should be with them through bad times as well as happy ones, that is what they would want. As a student of a good teacher, one should use the knowledge to be someone great and good. and one should never think that they owe something to these great people. because if you owe something and pay it back, the deal gets through...and gets over. but one should never ever end to give the love and attention a mother, a father and a teacher requires.

We owe nothing to anyone unless an exchange agreement is made. Children have no opportunity to make this agreement as the parents procreate without the child's consent or participation. The agreement to 'follow the rules' of a society is done so in exchange for the benefits of living in that society. Every relationship is based on two individuals wanting something from the other. If the agreement is not clear to both or one is not making a satisfactory exchange then the relationship will end. There is no inherent duty to anyone or anything unless chosen.

Your mother and father provide you with comfort while you are young and growing
Your teachers provide you with the skills you need to live in this world and to make it your own
Your partner and children provide you with the greatest pleasure that can be found in this mortal life, through the sharing of you life with the person you love and watching your children grow into confident adults
To each of these people you owe a portion of your thanks, but the biggest part of all you owe to yourself, because,
You can not be comforted unless you allow it
You can not be taught unless you are willing to learn
And you can not be loved nor can you love others until you first of all love yourself.

I owe the most to my children. The simple reason is because I brought them into this world. This responsibility is followed closely by the debt I owe my father who always picked me up , dusted me off, and put me back on course.

Hello,
This depends of what kind of people are we talking about, some owe to they`re family or teachers some owe it to themselves, some say to God... but even so I owe the most of what I have done until know in my domain to myself as none helped me; but in other things like knowing how to behave I have to owe this to my mother and grandmother as I have no father and can`t talk about him; but mostly to my grandmother... and for me in the first place...

I do not support the idea of calling it DEBT. Giving loan and collecting it back is never considered as a noble activity in human society. Shylock in Merchant of Venice is hated by all the people since thousands years. Also what Dronacharya had done to Ekalavya is always criticised. Therefore what our parents have done to us is not debt. Its thousand times super activity than that. This can never be repaid. This is never meant to be repaid. We should always worship them as only God visible to us. We should always nurture them as a new born baby. We should take care off them like our son and daughter. God would bless us. If I can make my parents smile - I am happy.

It depends on the person and what you feel they've contributed to your becoming who you are. I don't feel I owe either one of my parents. My father bastardized me and my mother is pure evil. She did alot as far as making me have to dedicate a good portion of my life to being a better person than she raised me to be. None of my teachers stand out. Honor those who have helped you achieve. The saying "respect your elders" is outdated. It used to be that your elders were knowingly wise because they lived through alot of dangers, disease, and tribulations. Now advances in medicine have made it possible for anyone to live through their stupidity.

Got to go with summertime.
If you are a well adapted moral person, your parents and teachers are usually the ones responsible.
But the point of that 'education' is for you to pass it on.
The debt you owe your parents, should be paid to your children.

I think that when it comes down to it, the person who is the most responsible for the person that we have become, is ourselves. We sometimes are blessed to have wonderful influences and guides along the way, but ultimately it is up to us and the choices we make that determines who we are. It is up to us to take that wisdom with us, to learn from our mistakes, and to shape ourselves into who we want to be. Nobody is responsible for our lives but ourselves. There have been people who had horrible upbringings, and have walked through life alone with no positive influences, yet they still rose above that and became a great person. And there have been people who had wonderful parents, wonderful teachers, but they still chose to take a destructive path for their lives. Ultimately, in the end, we are responsible for the person that we have become.

I was closer to my mom, but I probably I owe my father the most because he gave me unconditional love. Also, he persuaded my mother not to have an abortion when she was pregnant with me. For each person it is different.
