Underwear, pants--why is it called 'a pair'?

because you got two legs...
or two holes!!!!
nah, the real reason is that in the old days you would have two parts to your pants called drawers because they were held together with drawstring. They wer a bit like crotchless bloomers... in two parts hence a pair of drawers

LOL I was thinking of this just last night!!! I was going to post it to here. BUt good question??? Why do we call it a pair of underwear or a pair of pants.
Shouldn't we say "Are you wearing a panty" instead of "Are you wearing panties?"
Shouldn't we say "I put my new pant on" instead of "I put my new pants on"??

Underwear, 2 holes to cover your bum. Pants , 2 holes to put your legs in.

You could start a word revolution and go around saying, "Where is my pant? I've got to get dressed and get our of here." Or, "I put my pant on sideways this morning." People would look at you strange.

i know! its the same with scissors!
hmmm.......maybe it's because they have two holes in them to put things in.....nah! that's kind of stupid!
i seriously have no idea!
