Henry Aaron for being such a great caretaker of the record all these years and for all he was forced to endure when he was trying to catch Babe Ruth. The hundreds of death threats to him and his family, all the things he could have said along the way, but didn't, and the class he demonstrated as a baseball player and a person. Bonds might be a great player but he doesn't even come close to being the kind of person Aaron has been all of his life.

I don't agree with you all the time, Frizzer, but you got this one dead on. I just finished re-reading Aaron's autobiography, and had sort of forgotten about all the crap he had to endure. I may be mistaken on this point, (my memory isn't what it used to be) but it seems to me that while Aaron was getting close to the record, and particularly in the off season when he was stuck on 713, we heard an awful lot about Babe Ruth. The anticipation of Aaron hitting #714 and #715 almost became as much about Ruth as it was about Aaron. But I haven't noticed that as much this time around. Is it possible that people have such high regard for Aaron that they don't want to associate his name with Bonds ?
Yes, Aaron should be recognized for his accomplishments, for the trials and tribulations he faced in achieving them, and for the way he has handled himself both on and off the field.

We should always acknowledge what Hank Aaron endured, even after Bonds is the new home run king. Aaron had more class than Bonds. He should never be upset about being booed, because he never endured death threats. We should honor our current home run king until there is a new one.

I'm not happy Bond's is going to break the record, but i think it has to be acknowledged just because its a major record in baseball. Howe ever, its good to see Alex Rodriguez is on pace to have the record by his career end, he has a lot more class and respect for the game.

Aaron's place in history speaks for itself. I can't say that Bonds even comes close in terms of character and integrity, or even talent.
