we insist on integration because we know that segrigation will breed casms between the people. we are all part of once society, and each member should therefor be operate in that society. This means being able to speak the language, (not necesarily giving up your own) contributing to the workforce, joining in public debates and our electorial system etc.
p.s. equality is an american value. europeans are not all equal. and we pride ourselves in that. We are of equal value, but we celebrate our differences.

I think the biggest reason is to avoid problems in society. In places where integration has gone wrong there have been major problems, such as inequality, which makes minority groups angry and gets them to start trouble.
Believe me, Europeans are generally not nearly as worried about terrorism as Americans are in the past few years. Terrorism has always been a threat in certain places in Europe, but people haven't let it make them live in constant fear and paranoia. There are bigger problems facing us than terrorism anyway.

In Great Britain and France, they need to focus on integration or assimilation because their countries have invited Muslim radicals who threaten the very institutions of that country.
Tolerance for all minorities is fine. But there are a few minorities on the fringe who need more consideration and respect for the secular governments that preserve their freedoms and the freedom of others.

Europeans welcome new immigrants and welcome the opportunity to learn new languages. Its not uncommon for europeans to speak two or three languages. It is not looked upon as a threat as in the Us. We can learn from their attitude.
