generally the grade curve is bell shaped. this means that the majority of the class score in the mid range and a smaller number score above or below average. with bimodal distribution there is two peaks at about the 1/3 and 2/3 range with a low in the mid range. read the link for more information

I would think that a bimodal distribution means that some students have "gotten it" but others haven't made the break through necessary to advance. I remember a calculus class. There were a bunch of people who were just lost until they got some insight into how it worked. So half the class was lost and clueless and the other half was learning and answering questions.

Basically your class have two type of people.. those that good and those are bad. There is no one average, but rather two.

For example a normal distribution is a bell curve where there is few good students, few bad students... everyone is getting an average grade of let say a C. In a Bimodal_Distribution, it can be said that half the students are getting Ds.. and the other half is getting Bs... few students getting F, C, and As.
