I had an appointment to test drive a car at 12:30. I got there and the car wasnt there. The salesmen made comments like 'it was supposed to be here at twelve' and 'she's been driving all weekend.' (It was Wednesday though) About 12:45 a lady drives up in the car. It's dirty, reaks of smoke, and all her personal stuff was in the car. She didn't have on a uniform or anything like she worked there. The car had 5000 more miles than what the ad said. The salesman had to clean it out before the test drive. It was a fairly new car too, a 2006 with low miles. I thought all this seemed very strange. (I ended up getting a car somewhere else).

What was happening was this owner wanted to get rid of the car but could not afford to trade it in because a dealer would not give her enough for the car and she would end up in a negative equity situation. So what she did was consign with the seller you were dealing with to sell the car for her for a small fee. Sadly, she was a slob, she was not prompt, she lived a darn good distance away from the dealer which put on many miles or didn't inform the dealer that the miles had changed significantly, and the car was filthy and a mess which was not right to you or the dealer. You did wisely to pass and go elsewhere.

Several things could have happened. The woman could have been a customer who purchased a different car, and was given this one as a loaner to drive while hers was being serviced. She could have been related to the dealership's owners, and they allowed her to borrow a car! She could have worked there (most dealership sales and office employees do not wear uniforms).

Whatever happened, you got another car, so it really does not matter!
