Hypnotherapy treats psychosomatic disorders like phobias, addictions, bad dreams, memories, anything to do with the mind. There is a definite need for the patient to co-operate with the therapist as any mental blocks can ruin a good hypnosis session. Go with an open mind and accept suggestions without analysis or questions.
Hypnotherapy allows you to directly access your emotional or "subconscious mind"; this is the part of your mind that is the most powerful, and stores all your memories. It is very seldom tapped to its full potential, and it is estimated that we only use about 10% of our potential brain power.
The subconscious is also the seat of all emotions, and this in turn affects all of your behaviours. It also affects your physical state (mind-body connection), and is responsible for the functioning of the immune system, which is why hypnotherapy can actually help with physical as well as emotional disorders.
The subconscious mind "tape-records" all experiences, and hypnotherapy allows access to emotions and past events suppressed, repressed or forgotten by the conscious mind. The subconscious can access facts, information, causes of feelings, behaviours and attitudes; these then can be strengthened or changed according to the clients wishes.
It can improve the success of other treatments for many conditions, including:
* Phobias, fears, and anxiety
* Sleep disorders
* Depression
* Stress
* Post-trauma anxiety
* Grief and loss
It also might be used to help with pain control and to overcome habits, such as smoking or overeating. It also might be helpful for people whose symptoms are severe or who need crisis management.
Some therapists use hypnotherapy to recover repressed memories they believe are linked to the person’s mental disorder. However, hypnosis also poses a risk of creating false memories—usually as a result of unintended suggestions by the therapist. For this reason, the use of hypnosis for certain mental disorders, such as dissociative disorders, remains controversial.

When my son was 13, he became difficult and began failing all classes in school. In search of a solution I took him to a Hypnotherapist and The Chiropractor. After about 3 adjustments and 4 therapy sessions he was back to normal.
Graduated with good grades and was never a problem.
So for us it worked he felt and behaved well almost immediately.

Anything that has an emotional component to it. For instance it can be very helpful in losing weight and smoking cessation.
It can be very helpful in pain management from all sorts of causes, including being used as a drug free way to deliver a baby.
It can help the body focus on healing itself. It has even been used quite successfully in cancer treatment. The benefits include minimizing the negative side effects of chemotherapy and radiation, while enhancing the positive effects of such therapies, improving depression. There have been studies that show the survivability of terminal cancer patients who augment their treatment with hypnotherapy live longer than those who do not AND that their overall quality of life is better.
